hi i am getting such bad 3rd gear lock out on my 2017 gt. it's been fine but all of a sudden it's been a pain to get into 3rd. shifter goes into 3rd fine when car is off. the gear does not grind whatsoever when driving just hit or miss if i'll be able to go into 3rd. can also down shift into 3rd no issues. kinda stumped, is there specific fix for this? short shifter, clutch, fluid, etc.?

If it didn't happen before I'd guess your clutch is getting worn out. I had some lockout on my 19 from new but switching to an aftermarket clutch eliminated it all together.

While you drop the trans to put in the new clutch that would be the ideal time to put a MGW shifter on and resolve the lockout issues.

I don't agree that a clutch going out is the only culprit of 3rd gear lockout so I wouldn't expect a new clutch to solve it. The car is notorious for high RPM lockout usually in 3rd gear with the stock shifter because it flexes and moves around a bit much.

From my 7 years of S550 ownership and reading these forums almost daily it seems less likely to be clutch related from everything I know about it.

I owned my car since new and in year 3 started getting 3rd gear lockout. I tried a Steeda shifter bracket which did help a little but did not solve the issue. Then I had a MGW shifter put on and that solved the issue. I have had it two years now and have not been locked out once.

Then a year later my slave cylinder died and I replaced my clutch with a McLeod RST while in there, my stock clutch was in great shape and had no issues per the shop.

So my personal experience is not a bad clutch causing 3rd gear lockout.

I will also suggest if you haven't look into the McLeod RST and its quirks and features, it's unsprung and a good bit noisier than stock. I love mine though.

Buy everything else while you're there. Braided line, shifter, transmission mount insert, new master cylinder, new trans fluid....

Almost certainly it's the clutch. An Mgw feels great, but it doesn't stop lockout if you can shift fast enough. Trans mount bushing insert will only increase vibration in your hand and rattle your dash over 4krpm. Won't stop lockout if you can shift fast enough and is useless after a real trans mounted shifter like Mgw anyway. A stainless steel clutch line was worth it for being able to modulate the pedal so the clutch doesn't feel like an on/off switch. Much better idea than the pedal spring gimmick that will only increase pedal effort once the spring is changed. Get the FORD slave cylinder.

Did you do the shifter before the clutch? The shifter improves lockout for most but not all. Hard to find someone who put a good aftermarket clutch in that has any lockout issues even with the stock shifter.

Yes about a year before my slave cylinder died I did the shifter.

When the slave was fixed my clutch was fine, no reason to believe that had any issues with my car.

Have not had a lockout or grinding since I did the shifter.
