Ford has dumped Millions into engine before and canceled them, but I believe this time they wouldn't throw those millions away. It should be close to ready.
What's an example?

I have huge doubts the Coyote will have a 4th gen. Unless pump gas magically upgrades to 95 or 96 octane tomorrow, lol.
I'm hoping is becomes the 5.2 Coyote.

Here we go its 1972-73 repeating. Hold on to your high HP cars its gonna be a long time before we get them back.
And 1985 - 1986. That was SUCH a scandal even though the '86 was just as fast. Turned out that the new tuning brought the power on at a lower RPM, so it was actually a performance improvement, but people only paid attention to the HP number and felt slighted.

There won't be a Gen 4 Coyote... You'll be lucky to see the Gen 3 Coyote last a few more years. Why would they develop a motor going away soon?

One way we could see a Gen 4 is if there is a V8 Hybrid. 500+ HP. Now wouldn't that be something.

If the gen 4 was a 5.2 liter, 500HP would be easy. Then add Hybrid front drive for 600+HP.

A V8 hybrid? Right... I can GUARANTEE you won't see that motor in a GT or a regular Mustang. A V8 hybrid would be a supercar setup. The only trim level for a V8 hybrid to be even possible is a GT500 type trim level where the cost of the car approaches 100k dollars.

The 4.8L Coyote was supposedly a huge investment, but then it might not have existed.
https://fordauthority.com/2019/08/2021-ford-f-150-will-not-get-4-8l-v8-engine/
From what I gathered in that article, someone (bad rumor) guessed the new Coyote was a 4.8L engine instead of the next generation of the 5.0L Coyote. I doubt they invested anything in a 4.8L. This one doesn't count.

Taken directly from your article:
"Last Saturday, we reported everything we thought we knew about the rumored 4.8L V8 engine supposedly destined for the upcoming next-generation 2021 Ford F-150. Now, new information has come to light that suggests that not only will the 2021 Ford F-150 not receive a new 4.8L V8, but that such an engine was never even in development. Here’s what’s going on."

The fact is that we're all going to be driving electric cars in the near future. There is no point in fighting it, it's inevitable so just make peace with it.

Ford might be doing this for when the S650 comes out .Then pushing its impressive hp number while the last generation was declining.
They did something similar when going from the fox to SN in 93/94. Fox went from 225 to 205 and then back up to 215 for the 94 SN car. i know they changed the intake slightly, allegedly to fit under the new hood, but i believe the engine was otherwise mostly unchanged in any meaningful way. they also claimed something about changing how the engines themselves were rated per SAE.

whether this is anything like that, who knows, but i could definitely see FORD wanting to have a decent boost up for the S650

Depends what you classify as near. I'm feeling confident we will have till the end of the decade before they start ramping up on taxes and regulations on how you can use existing ICE cars. Currently the big shift has started at the major OEM's on how to produce compelling electric products, and there's a big emphasis on a premium electric experience right now to get people to willingly shift. But there's still a big gap before that needed economical set of electric cars show up, along with the infrastructure to support them.

With that said, there is good evidence that future investment into combustion engines is fizzling out, so outside of expensive supercars and other niche things, this may be about as good as it gets.

No, we're not. Some of us will be driving them in the near future. All of us may be driving them in a distant future.
Well at my current rate of mileage, My car should far outlast me. My 2018 has 3200 miles, and I'm 55.
