Look up the Ford Escort Cosworth and itā€™s history in WRC. Then youā€™ll have your answer.
Or ā€˜RS500ā€™ for the body style I pictured above :like:

Sure you can. Its going to take more than a coat of paint and a name slapped onto it to do it. For instance, you dropped over 30K for a SE Shelby edition. Ford could have done all that and more for probably less. Now that would be a good way to pay tribute to the GT500 heritage.

It has already been demonstrated that people line up around the block for this car and pay way over sticker to get it. A very special limited run of engineered weight reduction (and yes, that means lots of carbon fiber and other weight reduction strategies) along with the paint and badging would have had me selling my car to buy one. I think if it was something truly special, people would dig into their pockets for that.

So no. Slapping a coat of paint on a car and labeling it a heritage edition for the sake of hype and marketing doesn't really do it for me. I would have expected a bigger effort if the intent was to pay tribute to (most likely) the last GT500 having a big block V8.
Well it worked for the 350s. A whole lot of owners bent over for a hard ride, to buy a paint and decal package.

Me too. I was looking at Iconic Silver initially, but I am liking this more from the photos and videos I have seen. If is like the GT350 Heritage Edition, I am sure it will be almost impossible to get unless you are willing to pay a hefty ADM.

but you get to pay 10 grand for 'hand painted' black stripes they don't bother to clear coat (or so I've heard).
I don't think that's possible. The stripes are applied to a completed car. You can't apply paint stripes on top of the factory clear. It has to be roughed up first leaving that area with no shine. You can't scuff up exactly just where the stripes go. So, a wide area is scuffed, typically the entire panel, stripes are laid and then the entire panel has new clear applied.

That's how my painted stripes were done and I described why there is no practical way to paint stripes on a finished car without having clear over them. Yes, the stripe could be done with paint that did not need clear for the gloss. BUT you still need to re-clear the areas around the stripes which mean you also need to clear the stripes.

You probably have seen this thread, but there is a lot of great detail on how the OTT painted stripes are applied to a GT500:

Iā€™d be really surprised if Ford doesnā€™t release it in a CFTP package as well. If they do Iā€™m in, and wonā€™t give two shxts about an adm. Put it right next to my HEPR.

I love it. Those are the side stripes that should have been on the car from the start. The color is pretty awesome too.
If I could find those side stripes in black I would install a set on my Rapid Red 2021 !!

A good vinyl shop can replicate the factory stripes in any color you want.
