2020 "Base" GT350R?

If this is true, Ford is a complete mess. Why would they not publicize this?!?! I think some people would not have minded paying the bogus 5K increase if they brought back the base models for one more year.

I bought a 2019 R in August. If I had known they were making a Base model in 2020 I might have waited till this year.

To the best of my knowledge back up cameras became mandatory on all Ford vehicles as of May 1st, 2018 which is certainly contrary to what was posted above by Ford whereby it states that a back up camera amongst other items could be deleted on a 2020 R model.

I will be very surprised if Ford offers and/or produces any Base R models for the 2020 MY which would obviously delete items such as the lack of sound deadener, radio delete plates, tire inflator kit, trunk tray, trunk liner, USB ports, lack of speakers and the list goes on.

I agree. I tried to configure a base 2020 R and was not able to do it.

I got the 2020 GT350 brochure from my local Ford dealer. They had many available in the display rack.

That backup camera law became a federal law. Evidently people kept running their kids and pets over while backing out of their garages/driveways. So the federal government stepped in to protect people from themselves, again !!

it’s a moot point for me now since I already have my R. But I’m really curious about the claims made in this brochure.

In the 2020 GT350 sales brochure it states:

Shelby GT350R

Ford Performance has deleted anything that adds unnecessary, performance-robbing weight, or causes parasitic power losses. Deleted content on the GT350R includes (but not limited to) rear seats, air conditioning, audio system, floor mats and rear-view camera.

The middle part of that 3 paragraph section is not in my brochure.

Could be as simple as a copy-writer took wording from an earlier version and put it in, and nobody caught the error in the multitude of reviews it had to go through. This seems to happen a lot - I was just on the Ford Canada website looking at the comparative page for the 2020 Mustang product line, and it turns out that the GT350R and the GT500 both have 2 main bearings on the crank, although all the other V8's and the I4's have 5.

A Base GT350R will not be produced for the 2020 MY with the last Base R models being manufactured back in late April 2018.
