Good morning everyone. Recently my backup camera has been intermittently inoperative. It seems correlated with the temperature, working in hotter weather and becoming pixelated or just throwing a blue screen up in cooler weather. I’ve been following all of the other forum posts regarding this, and it seems like most people have replaced the harness from the trunk to the camera and the problem was solved. Unfortunately, that was not the case for me.

I’m assuming next step would be to check the camera, however, I’ve also read about people suspecting harness damage further up the car, or it potentially being transmission related. Does anyone else have more knowledge on this issue? Has anyone replaced their harness and still had problems? Trying to avoid taking it to the dealer until I’ve tried everything I can. Thanks!

Wow, thanks for that. Somehow through looking for days I never made it to that post. Looks like a camera is going to be on order.
It's not the camera, it is the wiring. There is a recall for the 2019's and 2020's as well.

If you open the trunk you will see shrouded wires going from under the rear shelf to the trunk lid. That is usually where the problem lies. In my case, it was a broken wire. I cut the shroud, took the wiring out, and repaired it, then closed it up with electrical tape. Also, there's a clip holding the wiring to the body of the car under the rear shelf. That has to go or the wires will keep rubbing.

Either that, or take it to Ford to fix.

Maybe I wasn't clear in the original post, but I have already replaced the harness. I ordered one brand new and soldered it in.

Also, I am unaware of a wire harness recall for these cars. I have only seen a software recall for the 2018-23 that has to do with the gear position sensor and can affect the camera. I had that issue before and got the software fixed. That is a separate issue.

That's my bad I missed that part. I guess since that was fixed and you updated the software, I guess the camera is the only thing left. Hopefully that will be it.

Mine was doing the exact same thing last year and it was definitely temperature related. I never got it figured out though. It just stopped messing up. Hope you figure it out because I'm sure mine will start doing it again one day. BTW, mine's also a '19 Bullitt.

I will keep the thread updated once I swap the camera this weekend.

A quick update:
  • I swapped out the backup camera today. Obviously I haven’t done much driving yet, but so far the camera seems to be working perfectly now. I will update the thread if anything changes
  • As stated in most other posts about changing cameras, the guide lines and zoom functions are now gone. I should be able to go into Forscan tomorrow and recalibrate. I’ll document that too in case there’s any issues
Thanks to everyone for the help!

Final (hopefully) update. Hooked up Forscan and did the backup camera calibration, which was a very simple process. Took like 5 minutes from start to finish and worked like a charm. Big thanks again to everyone who helped out!

Thanks for the updates!

I shopped around for a new camera back when mine started acting up and found several different prices. Where did you buy yours and how much was it?

The part number should be FR3Z-19G490-A. I ordered mine from American Muscle and it was about $70 after shipping. I can’t seem to find the same part there anymore, but several vendors have it online.
