I think the GT 350 in 2019 will remain the same no sense in building new tooling for a outgoing model.

The GT 500 in what ever form it takes will be one fast mother******

That said I think on road courses the GT350/Rs will still remain the better choice as it will most certainly remain lighter than the 500. I think for a few fast laps the new 500 will most certainly set some new records but with the extra power and most likely additional weight it will wear out the tires in short order.

My theory is the 500 will certainly be a very capable monster on the road course for short sessions but in a longer sessions will most likely start falling off as the laps increase. The 350/Rs will stay much more consistent even if a little slower the driving experience will remain awesome and extremely satisfying.

The 500 will certainly hurt a lot of feelings though from other brands.

Either car be it the 350/R or 500 will be awesome and it is just the next exercise in technology. As long as neither car gets electric motors we should all remain happy to know the Internal Combustion Engine is still around and makes satisfying sounds and power and drinks gas wastefully!
GREAT POINT on tires! I wonder what the longevity would be on SC2' with the added weight and power? This is all speculation of course but if the car is heavier it will most certainly reach the tires limits sooner. Less grip sooner, longer stopping distances ETC. My experiences in two different 350's one being my R highlight the great difference in the tires. During an 80's day and about mid session the tires start to get slippery, or greasy as some would say. The SC2's on the other hand were much more consistent, albeit they only lasted me less than 7k miles. Unless the 500 weighs in at about the same a 350, the 350 will most certainly feel more nimble, agile, a better drivers car. Take the head to head with the ZL1 for instance. Randy Pobst mentioned the weight difference and how "you can feel it" and remarked on the light and nimble feeling. Even after all that power, the ZL1 was only marginally faster. Hard recipe to improve on in the sports car world. Maybe why the Miata is so popular. More power is great, more weight is not.

Harold weight is the enemy in all forms look at corvettes 3200lbs or under is hard to beat in any form and add a high HP motor and they go like stink. Had a 02 Z06 very fun car just did not like the quality of fit and finish but it handled awesome and was very fun!

Tomster has it right.... have a GT350R (or a couple of them) for shorter / tighter tracks and get in line for a GT500 for places like Daytona, Road America, COTA, etc.....

Oh, and I can't wait to see what sort of time a GT500 puts down at a certain track located in the Eifel Forest.... we may soon have a new King of the 'Ring.

GT500 as King of the Ring? That means it has to best not only the GT2RS and Performante but also the upcoming new ZR1 plus 488 Pista and forthcoming GT3RS... and the venerable ACRE as well as the C7 Z06 & ZR1 1LE... and even the new GT3 at 7:12.... so I doubt it will be low 7’s let alone sub-7’s because aero & heft/weight will still play key roles.

Lol, people really have no clue about track performance.

No way in hell it will be king of the Ring. I'd be happy if they can beat the ZL1 1LE time (7:16).

Okay, let me clarify.... I meant that in the context of the Mustang versus Camaro wars.

I have cars with stickers and a big wang too! ; )

I think the responses to your post are accurate as you made a very broad and far reaching statement.

Yes, I did. I should have been more specific in my original comment as it was not my intention to say overall.... just within the scope of the Camaro / Mustang rivalry.

It was my mistake to not be as clear in my typing as the thought was in my head, so I guess my comment was fair game for calling out.

Oh, and congrats on the big wang.... size does matter.

Correct - this one is a 2001 GT and a refugee from the Bondurant school. SVT and Roush made them safe as all get-out and able to run all day on track in desert temps, but didn't do much to increase power. With just a bit more work, these make one hell of a bargain for going fast at track days.

I'll never buy another ford . Might as well just shoot for a Porsche , if the Shelby's are going to be as common as a regular GT.

agreed.... i feel like the only reason ford is continuing the 350 is because the 500 is not ready like it was supposed to be.... if the 500 was going to be ready this summer or before the end of '18 and a 2019 model year, i feel like the 350 would have been discontinued.

now its at least a 5yr production car (15-19) and very well could go into 2020... i like being one of the only people in my area to own one and it seems "special" because of that.... days are numbered for that feeling unfortunately

Not even close. How many GT350s have you seen? I think my count is 10 in the last 3 years in multiple states. I see GTs (and Porsches) all the time.

In the end.... What a life - that we can be concerned and passionate about such things. Life is good...and all of this stuff, really isn't very important (but we enjoy it!). ;)

Enjoyed my R so far - thinking of selling, just to taste something else in my lifetime. I don't care much that they might make a few more, but timing is everything ;)
