2019 5.0 VVT solenoid leaking

wish I were able to tackle this before spring, but here we are. Finally got the car up on jack stands for a brake job and said ‘oh yea, I should find out where that oil is leaking from and burning off my exhaust manifold and cat’

turns out both VVT solenoids are leaking on the driver side. I’ve read a lot of ppl suggest replacing the whole valve cover, that seems like a lot of wasted effort imo not to mention the crazy price difference it’ll be. I think I’ll find just replacing the seals a go. Does anyone have any tips or tricks?

car has 36k miles, kinda surprised they leaked this early on.

If it were me, I’d just replace the drivers side. It’s much easier to do and appears to be leaking the worst. Passengers side requires removal of the battery box, gdi pump, etc. it’s not a terrible job but I wouldn’t do it if not necessary.

Yea I have no intentions of touching the passenger side, what I meant was just do the VVT seals or the entire valve cover, as it seems like that is what a lot of people recommend. I’m 95/5 on just giving the 2 VVT seals a go tho

I’d just do the seals. I think the ford procedure is actually to replace all of those seals every time you pull the valve cover.
