Well this sucks.

Finished up install on my fiancé’s car (2018 gt, gen 5 whipple, stage 2 plus e85) and was greeted with the glorious sounds of piston slap two pulls into tuning. Didn’t even make it to WOT pulls. At least now we get to build the motor and really crank it up right?!

Is anyone else sleeving 18 blocks aside from MPR and L&M? Definitely exploring all options at this point.

both MPR and L&M do good work, you won't go wrong with either of them. Go with the one you feel more comfortable with and who delivers you with the best customer service and send them your money

One pull under boost and getting the piston slap sounds like the motor is definitely a ticking time bomb from a poor build from Ford.

MMR and Darton can also sleeve your block.

Maybe there should be an "add forged shortblock" box when ordering superchargers. I said it before... if I had to do it over again, I would buy a new mustang (because everything else is new too) pull that brand new motor and sell it. Put the money towards a built shortblock/longblock and have fun.

Good plan in theory but IMO it would be a tough sale, I mean who's going to want to buy a engine that is known to be problematic in a new car.

I'll keep you posted on what I think of the MPR sleeved block. I expect great things. From my dealings so far, I highly recommend Tim and his team at MPR.

Even “built /sleeved” blocks can fail ....ask me how I know . Lol

Thanks for the recommendations guys! Definitely going to start exploring options over the next few weeks and hopefully we won’t be down for too long

My 2018 sounded like that from the start, oh and it burned around a quart and a half of oil every 1,000 miles from day one.

Fortunately I didn't mod it and lemoned it before things got out of hand.
Yeah this most definitely is an issue directly from Ford. Just when you think they’ve developed something badass to make them relevant again in the world of 900hp bolt on hellcats, they drop this shit right in our faces.

We did the Sai Li dual pump return system. Super simple install and functions just like stock. Should be able to support 9-950rw but we’ll see!

Just curious, who built it? (if you don't want to say that's cool) I see a built short block in my future and am heavily weighing the different options.

Motors can fail for many reasons built or not, bearing clearance issues and a tune that lead to detonation seem to be the biggest culprits.

Man that sucks! So what is the deal with this new bore liner? isn't it the same thing used in the 11-14 GT500?
