I have two questions about the following 2020 mustang GT premium trims…

I’ve been told that the 401a package on the GT premium makes it heavy. What parts in it make it heavier than the other trims?

Also, what in the performance pack make the 2020 GTs faster than the nonPP?

I think it's mainly the heated & cooled seats that add the weight.

Everything in the Perfromance Package makes it faster. Better suspension, better brakes, better cooling, better diff, better wheels & tires, etc., etc.

Isn’t the diff a 3.55? I have a 3.15 and I’m really considering making that switch if it makes a difference

The 401A package is somewhat heavier due to the added doodads and what not. The B&O Stereo, all the added electronics and so on. Its not that much heavier. The PP is only faster due to the better gearing, even that is debatable.

Performance Pack is a Torsen diff (3.55 auto, 3.73 manual). Non-PP is the trac-LOK diff.

Yeah 10 speed auto. Does it make that big of a difference over 3.15?
I drove several mustangs when I was looking and drove 3.15 and 3.55 back to back. I searched out a car with 3.55. If you plan on going FI then the 3.15 might be what you are looking for.

EDIT: Someone has spelled out gear ratios, but...
Given the bigger tires and the extra rotating mass of the wheels & brakes, the gears probably make a tiny difference in a straight line.

The PP car should be capable of cornering better, and turning better lap times, because of
wider & grippier tires, bigger brakes, some different bushings, and the Torsen limited-slip.

What does it have for better cooling

PP has larger radiator and a different belly pan that helps direct air for brake cooling.

you'd need to go to a "torsen" diff i think?

You don't need to do the Torsen, but it has to have the diffy from at least from a 3.31 car. However, Ford sells the Torsen rearend through Ford Performance, probably your best bet. You can add 3.73 gears to a non Torsen rearend, just has to be from a 3.31 car and above.
