True, I can see it going both ways. Sales of the S550 have already tailed off ,such that they need the refresh to boost sales. Or vice versa, the over-all market is trending down, so no use in investing in the refresh now when sales are going to be down regardless of which lipstick the pig is wearing.

The Boss 302 was mostly a GT. It had no bespoke body bits other than graphics and some fascia components. The GT350 has an entirely different front end. It's pretty easy to continue to produce GT350s even if the S550 gets a minor facelift as it's basically no different than production carries on today. The chassis won't change any for a facelift, just as it didn't change between '10-'12 and '13-'14 S197s.
The GT500 had bespoke body bits and went through 2 different cosmetic upgrades along with its "lesser" brethren (2010 and 2013). A 3rd upgrade was the engine and suspension update in 2011 when the 5.0 was released for the GT.

JMO, but if the GT350 is unchanged then the other trims will remain the same as well. We'll see.

The difference is, the entire front end, forward of the A pillars is unique.

why in god's name would you retool for 1 year of production of 5,000 cars max?

The answer is, you don't. The stamping dies for the "regular" mustang can be amortized 50x over what gt350 stampings could.
It's just sheet metal and plastic on top of the unique understructure.

...or maybe Ford is making the other trims look more like the GT350, as seen in the 2013 update...

Besides, who says it's just one year? lol

Its not the sheet metal and plastic, its the molds that are 100k+ each.

It'll run just one more year and then the new cobra will come for a 2 year run. It will not run past 2020 with the 650 chassis on the horizon. That will make it a more limited run than the 350. Probably around 5,000 units for 2 years, much like the '13/'14 GT500.

Check out the comments made by thePill about the GT350 on the 2018/2019 GT500 thread.

History teaches that the fastest, coolest and best looking version always comes in the last one or two model years. So if you plan on getting one for keeps than that's what you should wait for. If you just wanna drive the heck out of it and get rid of it after a few years then waiting for 'something bigger' makes no sense. Like with phones.

Hah that is funny all the news articles do link back to here and we are asking the same question. Is Russia that interested in feeding us fake news on 2018 already :)
What would be really interesting is finding out how much fake news is actually fake. Or to find out that much of what we hear about Russia's recent activities is fake news.

The 2019 mustang will have a straight axle front and rear for superb handling and ride. This also allows for leaf springs and air shocks. Also in the works for the new 2019 mustang is a manual shift 10 speed trans and 2 speed rear axle. Engine choices are a 2.5 hydroelectric and a 4.6 geotech fueled by solar and soil. Stay tuned for more breaking news.

So much speculation and nobody knows a damn thing...
I'm so happy with my 17 GT350 that I honestly don't care what they do for 2018 and beyond. I was hoping the GT350 would be a limited run but I would have still bought it even if I knew they would keep making it forever. It's that good IMHO.

I totally agree. What we know (front end refresh) does not make business sense to make another year of GT350. Another two years? Doubtful.
Another mentioned they might put front end of GT350 on GT. Possible, but do the spy pictures indicate this? Also, why cover it up if the GT is a 350 body. You can just roll with it uncovered making people think its a 350. And why would Ford call it a refresh if only using the 350 front end on the standard GT.
