So, my friend who got his Mustang about 3 weeks ago is having some engine problems, we were installing some lighting related mods, and after the installation his engine started to have misfires. No check engine light, and since the only thing that's related to engine we touched during the installation was the air intake, so we re-plugged the MAF sensor and made sure everything was installed correctly, and the problem seems to be gone (took it for a spin and all seemed fine). Then the next morning, the misfire came back, can't even stay at idle anymore, engine just shuts off after a few seconds. Still no check engine light, but the codes read using BlueDriver reported random cylinder misfire. The vacuum gauge shows extremely low readings (around 4-5 inHg), and fluctuates like crazy. We also checked the throttle body since we have a spacer installed
two weeks earlier, and it works fine with the gas pedal.

Anyway, we've now scheduled it to be towed to a Ford dealership nearby to have it checked, should be covered by warranty since this definitely has nothing to do with the mods we did. Will keep everyone posted.

These definitely have something to do with the problems you are experiencing. I would suspect the repairs will not be covered under warranty.

Sounds like a major vacuum leak related to the intake removal.

Throttle body spacer and intake? That's definitely related to your issue. Don't you need to tune the car once you put in a spacer?

If you took the intake off and didn't install new gaskets you screwed up big time . NOT covered under warranty

No you don't, it's just a spacer.

To run the wires under the intake box.

I don't know why you would think that. First of all, I don't think vacuum leak has anything to do with the intake, we're not doing anything with the intake manifold, and technically you can still run the car just fine even if you don't have an intake, it's just to make sure the air is clean and dry and colder. And then the throttle body has nothing to do with the that either, it's basically just adding a bit of extra tubing from the intake to the intake manifold. So no, it has nothing to do with the problem with the engine.

I think you're confusing the intake and intake manifold.

i know if you mess up the MAF in any way this will cause a load of issues. we put one in backwards before and of course the car was garbage until we realized and fixed it.

People say "short runner intake", "GT350 intake", "box intake", "long runner intake".

I think you could have cleared a lot up with the term "air intake". That is always your filter -> throttle body. An "intake" usually is referred to as the intake manifold.

Well, I swapped in a good one and it still doesn't work. And the direction is correct.

It's definitely not. But, we shall see.

Also, if it is, the spacer would have caused the leak when it was installed, not after two weeks.

Pretty easy test, swap back out the spacer and see if it resolves the issue. Ensure the sensor on the intake is installed and orientated correctly (shouldn't be able to install improperly, but double check).

Was the intake changed, or was the Air spacer the only thing added?
