So that actually follows what I've experienced. My rattle was barely audible when I first got my car, and got much louder after I installed my aftermarket exhaust. That's why I think this rattle is something picking up the vibrations from the engine/exhaust.So finally got a call back from my service dept..
Ford suggested they see if a new car has the same noise..
They drove 2 new auto's and a new manual.. All 3 had the same noise.
He did say that mine seems a little louder than the new ones.. Not really surprising to me, but said it was close enough that it would be considered normal. Stated the tech wanted to pinch off the sound tube to see if that would help diminish the sound a little and they thought maybe my Roush exhaust was making it louder..
Anyhow, Ford wants them to run a power balance test on it along with a couple more things and give it back if it doesn't fail.. I really don't think it will fail anything as it doesn't have any other issues, but we'll see..
TL DR.. Ford says normal...
I was poking around the car yesterday looking for the source of this rattle and I couldn't really hear it under the hood. I could however hear it along side the vehicle, and when I poked my head under it, it sounded like it was coming from the bell housing area.
I need to jack mine up to inspect my oil leak, so while I"m under there I'll check that area for anything that could be rattling in time with the exhaust/engine. My current primary culprit is that inspection/dust plate on the front of that bell housing from that video I posted earlier.
