So finally got a call back from my service dept..

Ford suggested they see if a new car has the same noise..
They drove 2 new auto's and a new manual.. All 3 had the same noise.

He did say that mine seems a little louder than the new ones.. Not really surprising to me, but said it was close enough that it would be considered normal. Stated the tech wanted to pinch off the sound tube to see if that would help diminish the sound a little and they thought maybe my Roush exhaust was making it louder..

Anyhow, Ford wants them to run a power balance test on it along with a couple more things and give it back if it doesn't fail.. I really don't think it will fail anything as it doesn't have any other issues, but we'll see..

TL DR.. Ford says normal...
So that actually follows what I've experienced. My rattle was barely audible when I first got my car, and got much louder after I installed my aftermarket exhaust. That's why I think this rattle is something picking up the vibrations from the engine/exhaust.

I was poking around the car yesterday looking for the source of this rattle and I couldn't really hear it under the hood. I could however hear it along side the vehicle, and when I poked my head under it, it sounded like it was coming from the bell housing area.

I need to jack mine up to inspect my oil leak, so while I"m under there I'll check that area for anything that could be rattling in time with the exhaust/engine. My current primary culprit is that inspection/dust plate on the front of that bell housing from that video I posted earlier.

Been following the thread, but then listened to the video you just posted. Mine sounds exactly the same, and only when cold. It goes away completely when warm.

In fact, my 2 other previous cars both had the same type of noise.

I don't think it's abnormal especially if it's when the engine is cold. If it doesn't lessen significantly with engine temp then you may have a clearance issue. Maybe pistons too loose.

Mine never changes regardless of temp. But i was underhood with a scope and didn't hear a thing out of the ordinary anywhere on the heads or front of the block. Passenger side valve cover was louder, but I presume that's because that side is driving the High pressure pump.

I could clearly hear the noise under the car though, but I haven't figure out where it's from yet. I have an oil leak now (at least two places I could see) so I may let the dealership tech try and find it. He's going to be taking a bunch of that stuff apart now anyway.

A little update. Driving the car a lot lately and have about 1200 miles on it. Changed oil and filter, used Motorcraft stuff semi synthetic 5w30. Engine is quieter overall.

I'll be getting an oil change next week at 1100 miles because they are going to have to replace my oil pan gasket. lol.

Picked up my car today.. Nice to have her back... Drove it like I stole it.. :)
Sweet. I drop mine off Monday to get my oil leak fixed, and I asked them to hunt for that rattle while it was on the lift. We'll see if they find anything. Not looking forward to giving up the car for a week, but such is life.

Sounds good.. Hope they have better luck...

Anyone thought about running 0w20 in the cold months..
Would that assist if it was a oiling issue when cold?

Thanks. If they don't find it I'll throw it up on a lift when I get it back. I just figured I'd give them a crack at it while they have my car all torn apart. They have to take the whole front subframe out of it to get that oil pan off :-/. Not too thrilled about that.

I have 2018 GT Manual
I think my rattle sounds different
car is at 1300miles
had the first oil change 2 days ago. Other than that I had to drive yesterday in a dust storm.
Not sure any of these can cause that.
I realized the rattle just today I dont think it was there before.
First I realized in the parking lot when I was searching for a spot on 1st gear. when I stoped I was able to reproduce the sound at 1500-1700 rpm.
It sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine but not able to really pinpoint. It might be coming from anywhere. clutch in or out doesnt make any difference.

That's definitely a different sound than what mine makes. That almost sounds like the BBQ tick. I'd get that looked at.

I didn't even know about BBQ tick. when I searched for it, I decided it is exactly what it is. they all started after the first oil change. I am really curious what can cause that after oil change.

Quick update on mine. My car is at the dealership for an oil leak, but I asked them to look for this rattle while they were there. The tech was able to find mine, and said it was clearly gear noise in the transmission.

This actually makes some sense, as I've can hear mine through the shifter as well as outside. In addition, when I spotted my oil leak I'd narrowed the noise down to having come from behind the motor, so I'll buy this explanation. They said other cars on the lot did it also. I'm wondering if that trans fluid everyone raves about will calm this noise some.

So that's it in my case, the noise is the trans.
