Can I do a little dance? (it was a guess on my part, but an educated one)

It is a current issue.

On the 2018 equipment it is looking for a higher current draw through the LEDs to know the high beams are on. If that current draw doesn't happen the system thinks the high beams are not working. I think the CAN message for "High Beam Command" is a standard one, so it will be common on both style headlamps. However, the message for "High Beams Active" is not standard for both types of headlamps or it is proprietary and non-standard.

The only remedy I can think of is maybe swapping for 2018 headlamps if they fit...?
One problem with the story. The BCM controls the headlamps and measures the current draw. Our BCM hasn't changed. The SCCM doesn't monitor the headlamps, it just sends the signal that you want them on. IPC only accepts the signal that they are on so it can display the proper notifications.

18 headlamps wont fit without a full front end conversion I'm pretty sure.

I'm pretty sure this is a message issue.

You wouldn’t have to swap the entire assembly but just the projector. Likely still wouldn’t fit without modification but I don’t think it would require a full front end conversion.

Can you even just get the projector assembly? Those headlights will be every bit as expensive as mine... Probably not worth it.

Typically yes... I have a 2014 Fusion and I flashed my GWM to that of a 2018 fusion due to all the module mods and upgrades I tend to do... the GWM is the exact same across the board. Just the firmware is different... newer year firmwares can understand newer CAN bus messages. The GWM is basically the network router of the car.
What tools did you use to flash new firmware to the GWM? That could solve the parts shortage of SCCM for those that are not swapping in the heated wheel if it is something the general public can use like forscan.

You could wait tell some damaged ones show up on eBay and remove the projector that way. I have seen 15-17 lights on eBay for as low as $200 per side.

Probably UCDS?

SCCM is still required without heated wheel. Unless you can flash the SCCM to newer software too. The as built entries for the new steering wheel buttons didn't exist previously so it errors out when you try to change that as built.

Yeah if they're destroyed probably. Not a horrible idea. If you see any passenger side 15-17 headlights that aren't destroyed for under $400 let me know lol.

That is what I am referring to. Flashing the 15-17 SCCM with the newer 18 software.

Well if he is using UCDS the minimum cost for it is like $150. SCCM+GWM is like $100-120

Sam - I thought you needed to also replace the SCCM too...is that not the case?
For a 2018 you already have the new SCCM. Cobra Jet has a 2018. ALL 2015-2017 requires a replacement SCCM.

Cobra Jet you don't need to replace any modules except for the instrument cluster itself. Please view the thread here for the installation guide: https://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=99275
Sam,

Thanks!! I was following that thread too when you first set it all up, but didn’t realize you had posted an update in the #2 posting for the 2018 supplemental info! Excellent info for sure.

Wouldn’t the 2015-2017 HIDs have a greater draw than the 2018 LEDs (which are usually cooler and more efficient)?

If so, if you’re using a 2018 module in a 2016, is the conflict going to be that very draw of HID current, and it’s possible the FET is cutting the circuit?

I can understand the “flash to pass” continuing to work, as that is usually just a “blip” and not a continuous “on” - but if the BCM circuit is sensing a continuous on with excessive draw, it’s not going to allow the illumination of the high beam.

What does the wiring circuit look like for the headlamps between the 2015-2017 vs the 2018?

Has the high beam stalk changed part numbers between 2015-2017 vs 2018’s? Maybe it’s possible there’s something different about the internal stalk design or circuit, even though they both physically look the same externally.

Did someone already nail the above down and I missed it?
