I've read that the new stock exhaust tone is much better than the old. How much of that is the engine mods vs. a new system design? If it's mostly the exhaust components, do they fit the 15-17s? Just curious.

If you have a quad tip (Roush) valence, it'll bolt right up. Otherwise you need the '18 bumper and valence. It is quite substantially better than the 15-17.

Can't wait to hear one. If it sounds good, I'm willing to sell off my MF Street and swap one out if there is a way to control the active exhaust. Just going to take time for used ones to show up.

You could probably get a kit with a 2 position momentary switch that would open up the valve. Even the non active exhaust sounds way better on the 18, and the chief engineer said they purposely made it louder. I'm sure it doesn't drone still, as that'd be a no go for a production vehicle.

Any pics of the non-active exhaust system or details as to why it would sound better?

They made it a less restrictive muffler design on purpose. The 15-17 mufflers are chambered and very far away from straight through. I imagine the '18 passive are straight through or nearly straight through with baffling/packing.

It's pretty easy to improve from this:

So now that the 18s are more common, who's ditching their stock mufflers?

Not me. If I wanted to do anything other than the bone stock exhaust, which by the way I like because it is not obnoxiously loud, I'd go to something aftermarket to try and save some weight. But I would not want anything louder than what my stock '16 exhaust is.

It's a loud world, getting louder all the time, and government is getting an earful from people who are sick of it. So when they really clamp down on noise laws, and John Law is out with DB meters and tickets, no one should be surprised. Another reason the greenies want us all in E cars.

So far have kept stock mufflers but ditched the stock resonator in favor of a Ford Performance X Pipe. Not over the top but added some loudness and maintained a deep tone. Cold start is loud, but at idle it's quiet. But it really comes alive when giving it a little gas.

I like the quad tip appearance, so if I were to mate it to an axleback or replace with a full catback it would need to be one of the options with quads. Corsa with black quad tips looks to be a nice possibility.

Any drone with this? Been contemplating it but don't want to ruin the nice ride as is with no drone.

Not me. I bought the active exhaust system solely due to quiet mode. Even when the car gets boosted, I'm keeping the stock resonator and catback.

Now that is 10 degrees out I wish I could quiet the exhaust on start up. It sounds like a bomb going off I feel bad for all the neighbors.

still debating if I want to fiddle with the active exhaust at all. it sounds really good the way it is. I am interested to hear what it sounds like with an aftermarket H pipe over the X pipes we've heard. also contemplating if it'd be worth just swapping the exhaust tips out for something with a double wall/rolled edge.
