I just updated my 18 EcoBoost Premium PP (if that matters) w/ nav from SYNC 3.0 Software Version 3.0 build 17276 to SYNC 3.0 Software Version 3.0 build 19205. I see some people with Sync 3 version 3.3 and 3.4, is there anyway to get my car to have either of the new updates? I assume since it is post face lift, it should, but y'all know best so what do you guys think

No - unless you replace APIM. I've asked the same question in the other mega-thread. There are several versions of hardware apparently (APIM) and the newer Sync versions only are applicable to some of them.

Yup. 3.3 is only for 19’s. I have heard 20’s are shipping with 3.4 but haven’t seen one from the factory yet. 3.3 will be upgradeable to 3.4 but your 18’ will stay with 3.0

Yes, if you make the necessary changes the update “can” be done. Basically your jailbreaking your Sync system. It requires some know how to do it properly.

OP, if you read this thread and decide it’s within your wheelhouse by all means go for it.

! Proceed at your own risk!
! Load factory default APIM values with ForScan or IDS prior to update.
Jailbreaking would imply that third party code could run on the unit which is not the case. The utility is formatting the storage to allow 3.4 to install. The end result is still a locked down system.

You are, of course, correct. I was using the term (incorrectly) generically to impress on the OP that this may not be as easy as it sounds.

You are also correct! If someone isn't comfortable with formatting a flash/USB drive, etc. I would agree they may want to have a technically inclined friend look at the instructions before trying it.

I don’t have forscan, is that step needed to install the 3.4?

It really isn't rocket science... but I will do some more reading and familiarize myself with this new infotainment system since I'm new to SYNC coming from using iDrive (BMW) for the last 5 years. Thanks for the link to https://www.f150forum.com/f118/upgrade-sync-3-v3-0-v3-4-instructions-458828/ tho, if I can't read it I will ask my mommy to do it for me.
Good morning. You never gave us an indication as to your experience in electronics and computer science. It’s not rocket science but it is, let’s say, involved. If you have know how, by all means. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. And say hello to mom for us. :)

And by the way, yes, you may need Forscan.

1. Highly recommended (but not required) .vbf file firmware update with UCDSYS, IDS or special builds of ForScan.

1. Optional highly-recommended firmware update
With your SAE J2534-2 compliant, full-chip passthrough adapter flash the APIM with these .vbf files.
Do not play around with this if you have no clue what this is. Messing up step can permanently brick your system which is why many choose to skip it altogether.

No disrespect meant, if you think you can do it by all means give it a go. I’ve seen way too many people who have no business using even a landline telephone try to attempt this stuff and then ask for help/claim nobody told them so, hence the warning.
