I have an appointment in May to have the OPG/CS install done. The mechanic (well-respected local guy) said for my build level (Edelbrock 2650 Stage 1, conservative tune, 7500 limit) I didn't really need to spend the money on an ATI. I'm teetering because it'll be apart anyway, almost why not? For $150 I can get a 2018 viscous damper from Tasca, and the general consensus on this board is that it's better than the gen2. Will it fit? Is it worth the money? Anybody tried it yet?

Yes it should fit, and yes it should be worth it for that price. It's a bit different than the Gen 1 and 2s, so you'll need a different puller to take it off at a later point.

Let us know if you decide to do this. I'm curious as well when I do OPG.

If any of you guys decide you want one. I’ve got one with 1100 miles. $75, but you’ll have to pay shipping. Thanks

Thanks. I guess I'm just worried because of the snapped snouts I've seen with the ATI. Paranoid i guess.

Every one I've seen was a few hundred miles after installation, which means caused by install error. The ATI is a tight fit and the hub should be heated with a torch when installing to make sure it's fully seated.

Many have had issues with loosening ARP bolts as well which could add to the issue.

Mine lasted a couple of years and abuse. Whipple stage 2 on a 3.25 pulley. OPG,CG, APR bolt and ATI
8 half mile passes, 7 roll race passes and 30+ 1/4 passes. Broke the snout at the last one 3-4 at 125mph. I think wasn't seated properly although it was torqued properly. I'm also on the fence on what to do with my new aluminator since it has CJ oil pump but regular CG and I will open it before installing it.

Damn, that sucks. After that many passes I can't imagine it would be a seat/torque problem but maybe from the blower pulling on it? Install related problems usually show themselves pretty quickly.

You know the aluminator has the same crankshaft in it right? It's no stronger than the one you broke... which would scare me lol

Yes!
My understanding is that basically all of these engines use the same crankshaft
Even if you have a sleeved short block, it will start with the same crankshaft
The only real preventive measure (aside to proper installation ) is that MFP bracket support but it runs in the back portion of the crank (VMP setup) and they can’t confirm if it would fit the Whipple setup.

MMR does have a billet crank but it costs as much as a built shortblock alone if I remember correctly. That's the only upgrade i know of.

MMR does offer a race “Cryo prepped” crank for $600, but you’re right it’s either stock, that or billet!

Is "cryo prepped" legit or snake oil? Lol. Kind of sounds like it

Not sure. They “claim” to have made 2000HP with it. If I have them build my motor, I’ll probably get it!! Lol
