TL;DR: I put a 2018 intake on my 2015 GT. Trying to identify the extra vacuum hose (no spot for it on the 2018 intake).

Picked up a take-off 2018 intake for cheap. Heard good things about it, figured I’d give it a shot.

Originally purchased the car with an Airraid intake. Found a used Steeda intake for a good price, needed a bottom box. Found a whole 2018 assembly cheap, and figured I’d get it for comparison’s sake. I’m a nerd, and data is fun… so why not?

FWIW… build quality on Ford factory intake seems miles above the Steeda. I did not appreciate the build quality or fitment of my Steeda intake. I’ll give Steeda the benefit of the doubt and say they must not all be like this. Had quite a few driveability issues with a SCT canned 91 tune (specifically for this intake)… but that’s probably tune related, not intake related. Lots of people love this intake with a custom tune.

The Airraid seems comparable to (or better than) the Ford intake quality. No driveability issues or complaints whatsoever.

Took off my Steeda pro-flow intake today to swap the 18 stock. Joke’s on me, there’s 1 less hose on the 18+ than the 15-17 stock intake.

Flashed back to stock. No codes yet. Intake feels about the same as the Steeda intake, minus the rev hang. Ironically, the 0-60 time seems to be about 0.2 seconds faster on the stock tune and stock intake, vs the Steeda intake and canned 91 tune.

A few old forum posts suggest this is a “vent” hose… which is why Ford deemed it unnecessary in the 2018+ Intake. Anyone know for sure what this is?

So you're running the 18+ intake with your stock tune? I'm pretty sure the MAF housing is bigger on the 18+ so a tune is required.

Hmm. I see. Full disclosure, I’m running this intake with the tune that came on the car, with the Airraid intake.

I suspect it’s the stock tune, due to the 7000rpm rev limiter, but it may be tuned.

I do notice a slight bit of rev hang, but no codes and it does seem to perform well at WOT.

If it's running, it must not be the stock tune. Probably just so happens that the Airraid MAF you got tuned for is very close in size to the OEM 18 MAF.

I swapped to a 18 CAI intake and forgot to flash a tune update, the car would barely idle

Car seems to run fine, almost perfectly.

I dId notice with the Airraid the car responds extremely well to octane boosters… maybe it’s a flex tune. Still has the 7k limiter though 🤔

In 7000 DA, before suspension was complete, I would run very consistent 6.5s 0-60’s on 91 octane. 3000-4500rpm launch, didn’t seem to make a difference. Track mode, AT ON/off, clutch dump or slip, none of that seemed to matter. Very consistent.

Add 1/2 bottle of Octanium to 1/2 tank (Should be 94-97 octane if I remember right) and it would run 5.0-5.5s with the exact same DA, setup, and launch technique. Felt like a totally different car.

I'd run a log of your long term and short term fuel trims.

The fact that it responds well to octane boosters doesn't necessarily mean it's a flex tune. It just means the computer is setup to add timing based on lack of knock which is pretty standard. And most tuners don't (or shouldn't) increase the rev limiter past 7000 if you still have the OEM manifold as it doesn't make power past that so again pretty standard.

Interesting. I appreciate the feedback.

Even if it is tuned, I hate the idea of having a mystery tune. Planning to go with an E85/Flex tune from PBD once I pick an intake.
