The Mustang is an excellent "drivers" car, I agree. The body style is one of the best out there as well. Also, I'm big into tech as it is what I do for a living and a hobby. Maybe I have unrealistic expectations? That's a possibility. Ideally, I'd like all the tech in a Tesla with the Mustang body style. Somebody mentioned the newer Cadillac ATS's. I have to say, they do look good. I'm a fan. But I digress. I know this thread was supposed to be about the MT-82.
Yeah what my Mustang is missing is a ridiculous 17" touchscreen like the Tesla has. It's like having a laptop staring at you while you drive. Boy am I missing out.

I work in IT/Tech. When I get in the Mustang, it's a refreshing escape from it all.

I worked for Mercedes for 11 years, I feel the same way getting into my '11 Mustang at the end of the day.

Actually the "outlier" as it were is the buyer willing to pay $ for high performance. That's why the Coyote exists, regardless of its interior. And assuming that someone who thinks differently than you is an "outlier" is pretty self-important.

"Tech is what sells cars..."

Funny - the best selling vehicles in the country aren't high tech - they are work trucks. And the reason cars sell is totally based on that particular buyer. Some buy for price. Some buy for economy. Some buy for reliability. Some buy for utility. Some buy for - well you get the picture. Most people also buy for a number of reasons, almost always one reason being more important than the other.

Almost every buyer buys, at least partly, based on their attraction to the looks of a certain vehicle. Last time I checked, they still used clay to make scale models of prototype cars. Remember - looks. Sounds pretty low tech to me.

:D
That's the thing. The looks and designs of modern cars wouldn't be possible without a computer and software. I'm not sure if clay is still used, but designs aren't made with clay, designs are made with a computer and software. The advancement of automobiles to what they are today was because of tech. Tech makes more efficient(power and economy) engines possible. So yes, I still stand by my statement. The Coyote wouldn't exist without tech.

I think it's a 12" touchscreen. But regardless, Tesla has some pretty sweet stuff in their Model 3. Everything is simplified actually. Any changes that need to be made to the car go through the touchscreen. There isn't a gauge cluster or dials or anything. I agree, I think we are all missing out. Soon enough I guess. All cars will be like this in another 10 years.

I'm in the same boat. I couldn't give a rat's a$$ about "tech". Tech is for my desktop/laptop.

In my GT, I've got the windows down or cracked and listening to nothing except my exhaust. I almost never use the radio. If I need directions, I use my phone. And if someone calls, I have bluetooth. That's it. All I'll ever need as far as tech goes.

And I love my cloth recaros and the rest of the interior is more than adequate to me.

I'm all about driving it.
Funny...ever since I got this 2018GT id contemplate whether to turn the radio on or not whenever I drive. Usually I just keep the radio very low. The exhaust in the 2018 is glorious.

Model 3 is 15". I'm not sold on everything being touchscreen and off-center. I can reach for a volume knob or a temperature dial without looking. The worst things about "touch" screens is (ironically) they can't be operated by touch, you have to look at them.

Exactly. Touch screens are gimmicky PITA.
My '14 Jetta also just has knobs.
It's ridiculously easy to hit a button to turn on the a/c and turn the fan knob without taking my eyes of the road. Heated seats: press a button. It's actually more convenient than a touch screen.

I rented a Ford Fusion Titanium last year. Everything was touch screen. It definitely looked cooler with all the controls on a touch screen. But it wasy more of a PITA to use instead of a simple knob or button. Of course then the screen was annoying especially at night, so I hit a button to turn it off. Then I could see no controls until was turned back on.

That is the worst part of the Tesla, imo. Ugly massive ipad.

I like the look of the analog gauges and billet metal trim in the cockpit of the Pagani Huayra. However, there is no way in hell I’d ever be able to afford that ride. I think the 2018 Mustang cockpit, particularly in 401a trim, looks terrific and certainly not over “technified” (if I can just invent a word). :)

I've done the low tech pure sports car thing for four years with my Miata. To me the Mustang is a GT that I can be comfortable in and still enjoy hustling along the back roads. So I'm excited about the tech in the Premium package that I have coming.

I haven't lived with it yet but it seems like Ford has done a good job of making control of the majority of the stuff you need while driving available via tactile controls.

Still, I don't buy that it's the popularity of tech that makes the Coyote possible. It's Ecoboost sales that make the GT possible and (at least around here) the majority of those are base trim level.

Glad I can rely on this threads ongoing flood of information regarding the 18' 6 speed. Good thing there's only 1 known thread for the topic and its not getting derailed. :headbonk::headbonk::headbonk::doh:

We’ll have to install a Steeda “thread bracket” to keep the conversation from shifting inappropriately. ;)

You don't have to operate by touch, that's a choice. You can also use voice recognition. Voice recognition has advanced to a stage that you can use it often and it actually recognizes most of everything you say. You can talk and still look at the road.

Front end of those Teslas look so freakin weird. Kinda looks like how your mouth looks if you go "pfft".
