I also would not hold your breath on a V8 GT500. Very well could go to eco boost

I agree and would wonder if they will take a form of the v6 that is going into the new GT and leverage that.......Steve

Well,.......that sucks. But, I'm still willing to pay that much for one. I like it that much. Plus,...it "should" be much easier to get one. Maybe,.....

No. Spoke with one of the performance sales managers at one of the higher volume mustang dealers in the country back in June. His statements were that as Ford was developing the Voodoo with Rousch that separately they were beginning development of a TTV8.
Hope it's good info as the top tier muscle mustang GT500 just wouldn't be right with a turbo 6. As the power plant for the new GT it makes sense as it's compact and developed for endurance racing. The GT500 just has different goals, namely to terrorize the street and strip in IMO.

The dealer I ordered my GT350 from is supposedly the third largest Mustang dealer in the nation. According to them, Ford will discontinue all V8s after 2018. Take that w/ a grain of salt, it's just something that the guy mentioned in conversation.

While I don't think that guy knows better than anybody else, the writing is probably on the wall for the death of the V8 within the next decade. The next corporate average mileage target is 35mpg in 2020, which is a scant 5 years away. I think it's pretty possible for a turbo V6 to replace the Coyote in the GT. I don't think however there's enough volume in the special edition Mustangs to prevent them from not using a V8 there. We'll see.

Three available engines in the Mustang is great, but it feels very transitional to me. They're slowly easing (back) in the idea of turbo powered Mustangs; NA is the past, not the future.

The main point in your paragraph is corporate average fuel mileage. Most likey Ford will discontinue the V8 in vehicles other than the Mustang. Ford should still continue to be able to offer the V8 in the Mustang for decades. The number of V8 Mustangs built will not have a big impact on Ford corporate average fuel mileage.

So why do they put the turbo V6 in the Raptor to replace the V8?

And the fact that the turbo V6 has already proven itself to the masses in the regular F150, already accounting for the majority of new purchases over the V8 option. People are comfortable with it in the truck application. Not so much in a "pony car". While that may change over time, that perception has a ways to go.

Not a truck guy. Just saw a new vid from ford performance of the new ford GT turning laps and the engine sounds ok knowing it is a race car, but if that sound was in my GT500 I wouldn't be so thrilled to wind it out. In the end it is an opinion.
