What or who has deemed it damaged?

Did air bags deploy?

From your pics, I don’t see any visible signs of damages (cracks in board, burned components, etc).

The car is a salvage car , almost all the airbags were deployed. The car was hit from the passenger side (where the ecu is) but the ecu has no visible damage outside or inside.

The first pic, bottom right, the IC second from the bottom has a hole in the middle of it, 7640*0

There are similar indentation on some other resistors tooo so i think that's normal

It may not be physically damaged, but instead a fried chip, or bits wiped. But most likely since you opened it, a trace or solder cracked.

Hold it up to a backlight to see traces better.

Is the car not starting?

Any more info as to what brings up the initial question about the condition of the ECM? Are you rebuilding the existing vehicle or swapping drivetrain into another?

There is literally no damage on the motherboard

I am rebuilding it with the same engine (which was removed and put back in for frame repairs)

I came to the conclusion becouse i i ha checked every wire (continuity) comming to the ecu regarding starter and other important systems including the earth connections. The ECU just didnt wanna act correctly . It takes 10 to 12 times to push the start stop button to spin the starter once (but if we jump the starter the car starts right up). Also the ecu isn't adapting the fire sequence as the car runs a little bit roufgh.

How can you see a short? There doesn't have to be anything physically wrong with the card, for it not to work, or be broken. Was the point I was making. Also, did you shine a light behind it and look for microcracks, etc..

IIRC, and I’m trying to recall where I saw it, but if the vehicle was in an accident and hit hard enough to damage the frame, did any of the air bags deploy?

If the airbags have deployed, I believe there is a procedure for resetting those and without doing the reset procedure it may affect the main ECU operation. Also I think the air bag modules all have to be replaced and there may even be a seatbelt sensor on the front belts that has to get replaced.

I know there’s a few guys on here who have rebuilt salvage S550’s in the “project” section. You may want to reach out to one of those guys and see if they can any additional advice.

Have you checked all of the body harnesses (engine bay, trunk area and along the interior to dash) for any breaks?

——

One other thing to mention too - with an S550 if it has had any major work where the transmission was separated from the engine OR the engine was moved from the vehicle, there is a crank sensor relearn procure that must be followed. If this is not done, that will also cause you some pains... some folks have said you must do the relearn process a minimum of 5x back to back, others have had it work on the initial attempt. Try the relearn procedure before doing anything else and see if that resolves your starting and idle problems.

Here is the Ford SSM about the crank relearn procedure:
