What do you all think the performance target for the new halo Mustang will be this time around? I know that the GT500 was more or less designed with the intention of besting any corvette in a straight line. I also know Ford benchmarked the BMW M3 for the Boss. How do you think the Vette will stack up against a Mustang Halo car? Will it be a better car over all or do you think it will only be able to best the Chevy in specific aspects?

It depends if the GT350 is N/A or turbochaged/supercharger

These are the two potential cars to replace my 350z (and maybe the M3 as well). I doubt the gt350 will be as fast as the c7, but I think it will be very close. The c7 will be lighter, will have a lower CG and better weight distribution. The gt350 may be more powerful, but will be higher revving (not a bad thing IMO), and will probably have better brakes and wider tires.

The c7 is a very good car, but from what I've been reading on forums it may still need some minor work to function fully at the track. I've read about issues with the brakes and possibly not quite enough cooling for those who really push the car at the track.

I'm really hoping that the gt350 will be close in performance and sporty feel, because I drove the c7 for a few days at a performance driving school and it was an awesome car. So if the gt350 is close, it will be awesome too, and perfect for those who want a great track car with the rear seats.

I would like to see the gt pp get close to the c7...low 12 1/4 mile, maybe over 1.0g on the skidpad. If that's the case, the gt350 should eclipse the c7's performance. Despite a lower weight/lower cg/better weight distribution on the corvette. If the gt350 has some serious power, wider tires, better brakes it will outperform the c7 and probably cost more.

The closer the gt gets to the c7 the further it will be from the 6th gen Camaros performance. I really don't want to see the 6th Gen with the lt1 on the alpha chassis passing the gt after only one year, and staying ahead until the gt is updated down the road.

I think the vette will beat the mustang in nearly every metric, but not by much.

vette doesn't have a backseat, that will cost you some points.

So if they both end up very close in performance and price, which do you choose?

Well if the c7 and gt350 are nearly equal in performance and price (hopefully the gt350 will be faster) I would choose the gt350, because I'm a huge ford fan for one, but also because the gt350 will have 4 seats. Used of course, I try not to buy new cars anymore. The only thing that would sway me to buy a new gt pp is if they can squeeze more than 460hp/over 1.0g out of it, or if it is around 440-450hp and ~200lbs lighter. Some say 1/4 mile performance isn't important but it is to me, and I know i'm not the only one.

I'm biased... towards my Z51 Stingray even though I have a Boss 302 which is no slouch. From my ownership experience I can say the C7's chassis is so well-balanced & grips so well, and with plenty of naturally aspirated power. The GT350 will likely be a beast especially at certain performance aspects but as for now I think the C7 will still be the better car overall. It's still my primary choice, especially when the new Z06 arrives.

Hey, I remember you now (from your link) from some other forum, don't remember which. Here's a crazy question for you. In your opinion is the C7 worth the price difference over the Boss (or S500 GT)? I know thats a tough question but one I am asking myself. A S500 gt perf pack at $35k vs a Z51 at $55k. Maybe you can't get a Z51 at that price just yet, but I think it will be soon.

That's actually a good problem. Got my Z51 last Oct. which was prior to the price increase so I did save a few G's. Now a 1LT Stingray w/ just the Z51 option stickers at $57995. Big price diff from a PP S550 GT. So if budget is the priority, I'd go with the new GT. If not and if a 2-seater sports car is fine with you then hands down a new C7 Z51 is a wise choice. Oh and IMHO, yes I feel the C7 is worth buying over a Boss and even over the new S550 GT w/ PP.... for me at least. Win-win result either way you go.

C7 Z51 is already on pair with 180 more HP SRT Viper in corners, I think C7 will eat GT350 but lets be fair and compare C7 Z06 to GT350 :D

First, the c7 z51 isn't quite as fast as a c6 z06, and the Viper is faster than both, in the hands of a skilled driver.

As far as comparisons go, the gt350 should be less expensive than the c7 z51, so that seems to be the better rivalry. The c7 z06 is going to be in another league altogether, from both a price and performance perspective. I therefore don't think it is right to compare the gt350 to the c7 z06. I mean, we can always compare them, but the z06 should be much faster.

Maybe in plastic metric, Here's my take. SE will be lighter than the current GT. I'm thinking it can possibly be 100-125lbs in difference of that of a Z51. The SE will have a host of things mainly CCB with a bit over 500hp which is enough to take out any packaged C7 even on the strait and top end.
SRA is gone and no more skinny tires on a 600hp car. The SVT gloves are partially off.
I think the C7 will even have trouble with the M4.
