All you people who store your cars for the winter better get out the flashlight and mechanical pickup grabber probe....

I got around to digging through my engine compartment. This could've been a fire... WTF!!!??? I just got the car a few weeks ago and didn't think this would even be a thing.

That last photo isn't even all of it. I was expecting to find some eggs or fur. Beware.

Same thing happened to my daily. I cleaned out the nest , in a couple of weeks it was rebuilt. Went to Home Depot and bought these gel mint cups for rodents, placed them inside and underneath the car, haven't had a problem since. Eviction time!!

Were you storing it in an open barn, shed or carport?

I use a product called "Fresh Cab" that comes four satchels to a box. Smells like pine and is made for farm equipment. In the winter, I place a few of them strategically around the shop - especially near outside walls / doors. Then, every few weeks, I throw a few more around and let them gather until spring when I clean things out.

You can pick it up at most hardware and big box stores - about 15 bucks per box.

Eggs? Those must be those toxic dump mutated Jersey mice. I got a rat snake in my garage. Keeps the mice out. Also keeps me out, but cant have it all

I have had good luck so far using the peppermint based rodent repellent. Gallon of it at Lowes is $30. I spray the outside perimeter and inside perimeter of the garage as well as around my tires.

Not sure if its the snake or the spray.

That effing blows man!

@Seanuf99 it's pine needles and fur. Definitely Michigan or Pittsburgh species from previous owners. I run a tight ship over here in dirty Jersey.

Indoors. That nest was imported from the Midwest. Only had the car about 3 weeks. That was the first time I peered deep into its soul.

I've got a big water oak (we call it pin oak) in my front yard. It makes little bitty acorns. I vacuumed and blew the lifter valley couple week ago. Then took the hood blanket off and poured shells and whole acorns out. Still have some running around in the hood structure. I'll put the blanket back on come spring. May do some squirrel hunting this fall.

When I bought my car new, I guess it had been sitting in the dealer lot for a while. I found soon after purchase it was infested with brown widow spiders and 1 black widow nest. I found 6 different nests with multiple egg sacks each and webs in the fenders, under all the underbody shields, and basically front to rear a long the sides and around the exhaust and driveshaft crevices including all under the rear bumper. I cleaned with I could and the selling dealership had a professional exterminator treat it while on a lift. Luckily, nothing made it to the interior.

Her name....Natasha.

It took a few months before I was comfortable driving it not expecting spiders to come pouring out of the vents haha.

Consider yourself lucky if all you found was a nest. Little bastards chewed up a bunch of wiring harness and vacuum line in my wife's Cayenne causing over $20K damage. And they did it all in one night.

Spray the whole front of the engine, valve covers, timing cover….all the natural parts every few weeks with a coating of wd40. It helps keep the natural items looking new, prevents oxidation and the smell is a mouse deterrent.

Dang! You’re right, that could have been a fire hazard for sure. I’m glad you looked deep into it’s soul and found it.
