Has anyone seen a picture of the 4-link suspension in these cars? It's an S550 chassis but no IRS. According to the Ford Racing website: https://performanceparts.ford.com/cobra-jet/

  • REAR SUSPENSION
  • Strange Engineering 9” rear axle with 3.89:1 gear
  • All-new 4-link rear suspension

1979 called and wants their suspension setup back. Really, I'm not a fan of a suspension that is designed to pop big wheelies. It makes for good photo op I suppose though.

Whatever it is, I think it's going to involve a lot more things changed than just the four suspension links and a 9". Not much need for a rear cradle, for one thing.

Thanks! I was just curious how they mounted it to the rear sub-frame.

I don't want to go this route, just intrigued Ford wouldn't find a way to make the IRS work in the Cobra Jet. One would think it would make a great development platform for more Ford Racing parts.

Durability concerns. The more pivot and individual parts, the less reliable with 1000hp cars.

I see it alot. S550 IRS can go fast here and there. But making them consistently fast without damaging parts is very tricky. Hard to beat dinosaur technology.
