(although S550's competition is now as much BMW/Audi as it is Camaro/Challenger)
...and that is why I hate hearing "Competition Breeds a Better Product"...

...depends on the competition... The Mustang didn't start going head to head with the M3 until 2005. The Mustang gradually changed it's focus from there on out. Sure, this Musclecar craze pulled it away from the "World Class" sports coupe role. I believe Ford understood what the S197 was capable of and played that role wisely since it was in fact NOT a World Class sports coupe.

Even with all the disadvantages it was still better than the 5th Gen...

Today, we have a Mustang on an optimal footprint, Independent Rear Suspension and far better rubber already... I don't think Chevy was expecting a Semi-Exotic, World Class Sports Coupe... nor have they ever encountered a Mustang with those 3 boxes checked.

Your not the only one Erik...

As for the 6th Gen, a lot of people like using the ATS-V Coupe as a leg to stand on. They are still keeping the 3700lbs in reach (According to them).

http://www.leftlanenews.com/cadillac-begins-taking-orders-for-2016-ats-v.html

The bad news is, the Coupe starts at $63,660...

That is a huge gap in comparison, a lot that won't find it's way onto the Camaro.

I am still standing by my sources, the 6th Gen will be a 109.3 x 65.x/64.x (WB x fr/rr T)

You should be able to Rule of Thumb 10-12 inches into the front and rear track to get the overall width... and WOW!!! That is one big SoB. About 75-77 inches overall...

In other words, about 3-5 inches wider than the ATS-V overall and has 4-5 inches more track than the ATS too. All this is based on a 109.3 inch wheelbase.

I don't want to start a riot but, what if it is longer?

I drove a 5th Gen Camaro for the first time today. It was a V6 manual, huge piece of crap. I think it had the worst clutch feel of any car I've ever driven, absolutely zero feedback and so feather light that it was difficult to drive. I understand it's the lowest trim level, but Chevy really needs to pick up their game on the 6th gen because everything about that car was terrible.

It really made me appreciate what a great car the S550 is.

I was in Tokyo when I first seen a 5th Gen on paper. My initial impression was that it looked fantastic and I felt it was right where it needed to be.

I got an invite to Honolulu to drive a V6 and an SS...

Understand that I had never seen one up close. I was completely shocked it was so large and overwhelming seated inside. The sheer mass of the vehicle instantly turned me off.

They really were not that special, I liked the V8. I just wished it were a lot smaller. Currently, I have driven each of the models except the z28.

I will get my opportunity this Spring to actually handle one. I have spent a good deal of time with one but nothing outside of disassembly.

Huge piece of crap outsold the S197 pretty much from day one. Does that mean that was an even bigger piece of crap? A Yugo is a huge piece of crap. Lets be real here.

Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good. And I stick by my opinion, and if you disagree that's fine because you are entitled to your own.

Pent up demand from not being in production for many years, then sympathy for going through bankruptcy, that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

Even a million sales wouldn't have kept the 2010 Camaro SS on the track during Motor Trends first comparison.

If MT skipped some critical info, that Chevys performance cars were flying off the track, then bad on them... It was Chevy that insisted that their "piece of crap" was a handling machine...

...sorry to say, it wasn't...

This is the shadowy outline seen in Detroit, now again in Chicago. The profile from the A-Pillar up is signature Camaro and an aggressive evolution of the 5th Gen. The front fascia profile looks like an S197. I like it!!!

(The link may be blocked, sorry for the inconvenience)

The rest of the car looks compressed for sure. The image didn't line up with a full profile spy pic. They could be mis-scaled and drastically different angles. Overall though, it looks promising from the A-Pillar up.

The upper grill is way too small. This will be a major issue when hard laps are concerned. Not a good thing... love the profile, hate the restriction.

I got mixed feelings about this. I don't like the 3/4 and itt looks bulbous from this angle.

This render is using the Ebay headlight. I like the design overall and think it fits the Camaro very well. The headlights are a little bit too small for the fascia but it isn't as small as I thought it was going to be.

I'm really not into bashing the Mustangs competition but I can't believe how little the styling is changing on the 16 Camaro

Yes sir, it is the ultra-safe next step in Camaro history. It should be inherently better than the 5th Gen overall. The issue already rest with cooling and again, the 109 inch wheelbase.

The 6th Gen is going to have to grow a fairly considerable amount compared to the ATS-V Coupe. That car already weighs 3700lbs, some sources at C5/C6 claim 3750lbs. There is going to be a weight issue... I'm not betting on the $28,000 Camaro being lighter than the $63,000 ATS-V.

The Mustang is moving on to a practically new genre. This is a pretty sizable leap coming out of the gate and seems like it will pose a serious threat to it's benchmarks.

If you squint it looks like a ZL1 with C7 Corvette headlights.
