I'm with you. I own both and the Challenger is my favorite and mine is the cloth version. The leather looked great in my Mustang when I first got it, but with just 800 miles on it the drivers seat bottom is baggy already.

Just doesn't scream sports car to me that interior. Might as well look like a minivan.
I liked the interior design on my RX-8. I like the Mustang as well.

Okay...so...back from vacation, which included a visit to the Portland Auto Show on Friday. Saw the new Camaro, and sat in it (A Hyper Blue 2LT w/o sunroof)..as a reference point I'm 6'2 and about 250lbs, 33" inseam so I've got a fairly equal mix of leg/torso height.

I don't fit in it, period. With the seat all the way back and down the top of my head is still nearly touching the roof. My knees were bunched up, I couldn't get full range of motion on the wheel and the entire car feels closed in. The best way I can explain it is I felt like I was in a FR-S with a Camaro body kit on it..that's how cramped the car is.

The visibility is shit, period. Anyone who says otherwise is either being dishonest, wearing rose coloured glasses or hasn't actually sat in one yet. Even my girlfriend, at only 5'6 and about 125lbs said "the visibility is terrible"..so it's not a "it's not good for big guys" thing. The car has improved visibility directly out front..basically the field of view of the average person. Move your head to either side, try and look out the back or the quarters and you're screwed, it's really no surprise GM had to build in all the electronic nannies, sensors and monitors..because your eyes are useless in it.

The car does look good, but even in person it's obvious GM played it ultra safe in terms of styling. Hyper Blue is a very pretty colour in person, I'd recommend it and look forward to the Ford version of it on the Mustang. The materials felt "okay". I say "okay" because there is a fair amount of hard plastic on the car, still..it's just a "classier" hard plastic. Anyone who says you're getting "BMW levels of interior" in a 2LT/2SS car is higher than a kite..it's just not true. At the Portland show they had both a 2016 M3 and M4 and the interior fit and finish on those cars is dramatically, other-worldly better than the Camaro. It's nice to be able to make direct comparisons within 15 minutes of each other.

Overall...I found myself "meh" with the new Camaro. The interior is a mish-mash of GM SUV interiors, Mazda inspired design, cramped ergonomics for anyone over about 5'9 or 5'10 and frankly..just kind of a "oh..yeah it's okay" vs a "oh..this is nice!" feeling. I don't hate the Camaro, but I do think there is a vast disconnect between the hype and the product.

I could not disagree more on the room issue, however, I am a smaller person. At about 5'10 180 pounds, I have enough room. The visibility when you first get in is bad. But once you get your seat adjusted and mirrors, it is much better. Now......is it good? No, not even close haha.

I'm 6' 2" 220 lbs and fit just fine in it. Was comfortable and had plenty of head room.

I also agree that the visibility isn't that great still but it was worse in the 5th gen Camaro and I owned 2 of them...

That visibility issue goes out the window once you adjust the mirrors and seats correctly.

I'm not saying visibility is perfect by any means. (If you turn your head to look over your shoulder all you're going to see is the pillar. You won't see anything past that.) Mustang definitely wins on the visibility issue although it's not perfect either. What sports car has perfect visibility though? But it's not nearly as bad as some people try to make it out to be just because they sat in one for 3 minutes or went on one test drive.

So I had a 5th Gen and sold it a while back to save money for my next purchase, still undecided what that will be.

I saw my first 6th Gen, and got to sit in it this last Saturday. It felt really tight, granted I am coming from driving a roomy, open 2015 Camry for the last year. I wish I could sit in a 5th Gen and then immediately sit in a 6th Gen to really get a better feel for the change in size. This purchase won't be a DD, and I am way smaller than you guys so the tightness is no concern but it just seemed drastic at the time. Food for thought I guess, but I am sure it is something you get used to quite quickly.

On a side note it looks amazing in person, and in all honesty I didn't like it at all from the photos(except the profile, which is basically the same).

Once it's a little consistently warmer around here, I'm going to go test drive an SS. I definitely don't have any intent on getting out of my GT, but I'd like to see what it's all about. I'm an enthusiast first and a Mustang fan second. I'm not a GM fan, but I plan to give it a fair shake. I did not care for the 5th gen very much in styling or general sitting-in-a-tank feeling.

i could see better out of a vette than a camaro. Im 5'9, sitting all the way down the gauge cluster was in my face. Adjusted the seat height so i can see over it, then I only had 2" of headroom

Hands down the interior on the 2SS 2016 Camaro is much better then the 350 track shelby350. Rental car VS luxury car. I've sat in both .Not to mention heads up display and Bose stereo.

So you're comparing the base Mustang interior to a Camaro higher trim level and declaring the higher trim level the winner? Interesting. Even at the 2SS trim level, the Camaro dash is acres of hard plastic with ugly seams between the dash and the gauge pod. Door is just hollow sounding molded hard plastic as well. The leather (vinyl?) accent pad on the door panel looks nice though.

What I did like about the Camaro interior was the overall design, which I thought was pretty clean, but the execution (materials) was a let down. The seats are very nice, as is the LCD display in the gauge pod.

The Mustang has better materials and feels nicer on the inside. There's just no way to spin this as a win for the Camaro in regards to the interior, IMHO.

The $48K+ GT350 is NOT the base Mustang FYI. To each their own, I tend to disagree with your opinion and think Ford has some room for improvement in this area. Historically they have been better than the Camaro on interior design and quality, so be it just a little, and I would not be shocked to see a refresh in the next year or so to freshen up the interior(IMHO of course).

I said the base Mustang interior, not the base Mustang. Look at the track pack interior, it's the base Mustang interior with cloth recaro seats. The tech pack gets the premium interior and leather seats.

New shifter, Suede(alcantara) and cloth Recaros, and suede steering wheel. Those are literally the only items you are constantly in contact with, so it is a big difference from the base GT to the GT350 in feel and experience.

I get your point though, there is further up the food chain to go.

Some are so pro Mustang or pro Camaro they feel they must knock the other at all times no matter what. To heat either side call the others interior garbage makes me lose all value in their opinion as both interiors are really nice, especially the top packages.
