Hi, I have owned my 2015 Ecoboost from new. Recently have not used it a great deal ( I also have a 2001 Corvette C5 that I have owned for nearly 14 years). But when I came to start it up a couple of days ago......it would not start......will not even turn the engine over. I initially suspected the battery to be the fault......so charged it up....but still same fault. Convinced it was a battery issue I went out and bought a brand new one......exactly the same.
Being an auto....you have to press the foot brake before pressing the start button......but even after doing this it will not even turn the engine over......nothing......but still shows the 'press brake to start' message.
This leads me to think that this might be the problem......although when pressing the brake.....the brake lights come on......I am wondering if for some reason the 'engine' is not receiving a signal that the foot brake is depressed......hense not starting.
Any thoughts?
Really would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions you might have. Thanks.

Doing a little digging on the ecoboost forums (f-150 and mustang) this seems to be a rather common issue. Consensus seems to be a bad fuel pump relay, bad sensor in the pedal, or various other fuses that could be bad or corroded. I assume there haven't been any light on on the dash the last time or 2 you've driven it?

Oh, and if you put the car to the "on" position without trying to crank it, can you hear the fuel pump kick on?

Thanks for replying. I have just had the breakdown engineer out who found a fault code indicating 'earth fault on start button'. When you try to start the engine.....you can hear the fuel pump ( I assume) turning on......but then nothing else.

I really do not know what to do next.......as it is a left hand drive import.....I cannot just take it down to the local dealer.

There are no other lights on the dash to indicate other faults.

Hoping someone will have experienced same fault on this forum and can help out with their findings

2 more questions for you. Does the car allow you to shift into neutral if you have it in "on" mode with the brake depressed? And have you tried starting it in neutral?

Hi, yes it does allow me to put it in neutral.......and I have tried to start it.......but same result. I have also tried the remote start....but again same result.
When it first came up with fault yesterday......it did start three times intermittantly. I have since replaced the battery with new one ( the old was loosing it's charge quickly), it has not started since ( I believe this is just coincidence ).

I have the same type of issue but I am manual. I thought it might be the starter but I checked the voltage at the solenoid on the starter and there is nothing there when you hit the start button. Start relay tests fine.

Hi, I have just come in from the garage having found the problem. Rather embarrassing really......but turned out to be the 'starter motor solenoid' fuse....number 81 (although it looks like a relay to me). Hope this helps.

Betting it's the neutral safety switch.

That one is a relay and yes it has been checked. Mine was intermittent at first and now won't start at all.

Taking it to Ford once the foundation starts on my new house.

Hi, ok.....good luck then. Incidentally.....mine started as an intermittent fault also.......might be an idea just to revisit that relay.....just incase........just a thought. Cheers.

Will do. They are cheap and easy to replace. Thanks
