Theres a recall on the backup camera wiring

Details of the Recall:
  • Affected Vehicles: 2015-2017 Ford Mustangs.

  • Issue: The backup camera wiring harness, which passes through a rigid tube in the trunk lid, can be damaged by the trunk's movement.

  • Symptoms: A blank or distorted image on the rearview camera when the vehicle is shifted into reverse.

  • Safety Risk: A faulty rearview camera can reduce visibility while backing up, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.

  • NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V082000.

  • Corrective Action: Ford will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicles to a dealer for inspection and repair. The repair may involve replacing the wiring harness, the camera, or both.

Correct. Mine is actually in right now getting this addressed. But the feedback I got from the service department was that heat was not a factor. They expect the cam to go in and out at any time no matter the temp. Or the other recall that was directed towards very cold temps. I have not seen any ford notice that includes hot temps as a factor.

I have seen several people stating that they only lose the cam in hot temps. I am one of those. It is very possible that the recall will fix it, but I just haven't seen anyone say definitively that the recall will fix the heat issue.

And if it does it again after the recall fix, it's now FORDS problem, not yours.

I ordered a new camera listed in the recall and replaced. I was able to remove a couple of factory zip ties in trunk area to release tension on the wires before they got damaged. Mine was related more to a faulty camera. Ford recall replacement part number is FR3Z19G490A and was $48 delivered. I installed it because I did not want technician pissing with my car. Once installed, you will need to calibrate new camera in Forscan. Been fine ever since, fingers crossed 🤞.
