2015-2016 Tech Pack and Base GT350 Cooler Solution Discussion

[Hack]

Here's what we know:
Transmission cooling issue
Buy new transmission 4800 add cooling unit 650 or
Buy cooling unit 650 and add Weldon pump 600 probably voids warranty because Weldon pump not part of the kit

Differential cooler won't work you can't get it to talk to PCM
No solution for that

No bigger throttle bodies
No track key
No recall parts yet for possible oil leak

Shelby's solution add a 200 dollar air scoop to cool transmission

Ford knows there's an issue that's why all 2017 have the coolers
The solutions are half baked and pricey

FYI - the transmission can be had for $2700. Yes, MSRP is higher, but there's no reason to pay more than $2700. And if you sell your existing transmission to offset the costs, it's really quite reasonable. The cooler bits are $533. These prices really aren't too bad for new, OEM stuff.

.. or at least that's what I'm telling myself. I can't think of a strong reason to hang onto the original transmission, even though I am a bit of a pack rat. I would be surprised if I couldn't find someone willing to pay at least $2,000 for it.

Well look what I found waiting for me on my doorstep. Shit just got real after the long wait. Dealing with a sick 10 month old so no real time to dig into anything. When I get to unboxing I will detail it all in my build thread. Hoping to have it all installed by Valentine's Day. Then get some track day action come spring. My understanding is this is the first kit ever shipped to a customer. Many complained but I am still saying Thanks Ford Performance.

I hope so also. It took almost a month from time of order to the transmission hitting my doorstep. I almost cancelled the order a couple times due to impatience, but glad I didn't. Even if it would have came the next day I wouldn't of had time to get the install done. [MENTION=19066]Epiphany[/MENTION] and Mike R at Autonation talked me off the ledge a couple times

I've been waiting since late October to get the permission to buy...so I haven't been able to place an order for the transmission yet.

Talk about frustrating.

So, I'm a little confused why we are considering replacing the base/tech tranny just so we get the internal pump. Essentially we are replacing a tranny when we could just install an external pump (being that you have to purchase all the lines and cooler assembly anyways). Has any brave soul just unplugged the tranny temp sensor... hell if we are going to replace the tranny anyway, lol. I question its accuracy in the first place since it doesn't touch any fluid.

Regarding sensor accuracy: aluminum is a good conductor of heat.

If you unplug the sensor and the transmission fails, I doubt you will get Ford to honor the warranty.

1. I got lost in the 147 pages, missed your ideas initially.
2. Agree about aluminum's heat conductivity, just thinking aloud.
3. If Ford isn't paying for your new tranny now, who cares if they will under warranty if you cook your base/tech tranny... I guess if you can prove there is a market for the base/tech tranny prior to it being cooked, I'm wrong.

I don't want an add on pump. I know the Track Pack trans works and I can use 100% of the factory parts to install it all. It will look factory and that means something to me.

Your questions are valid. Some people (as above) want an OE look. Others just want the car to work. I think it's a waste of time and money, to swap the entire transmission when there much easier, less expensive solutions that work just as well. I'm still searching for the exact car/price I want. I will either be buying a track pack '16 and upgrading the electronics inside, a tech pack '16 and adding an external cooler, or getting a 17 with both tech/track (yes, I know track pack goodies are included).

While I want the car to look good and to work well, I won't be attending any shows where someone is inspecting the originality of my trans pump. I'll be doing laps around a track smiling and waving as I fly by.
