Sorry, been fabricating...

I think the question was "what is the z28 built for?" To beat Ford... but beat them where?

Are we still suggesting the z28 is a feasible option for ST? That's a prepped class ya' know?

As it stands this "Z/28" has managed to avoid the Mustang in all classes. This was a decision probably based on previous 5th Gen failures in Motorsport.

I would think "beating Ford" would have meant, on the track and not just in a publication. To even suggest that this z28 is anywhere near the competitive level the Z/28 was, your being targeted.

Here is the major issue... When I began this thread, there were members (potential buyers) on Camaro5 that were prepared to race. Even some semi-pro guys over there... It was a common misconception. After this thread migrated over to C5, people became aware. Did this topic save some headache?

While some scramble to place this piece of shit in a single class, they still claim competition doesn't matter. But still they continue to find this pig a home... Stop...

Do not attempt to mislead people... This is NOT a track car, race car or meant for competition. It's a poor street car that has been given expensive band aids to remedy its mass. Most of the misconception comes from Chevy's marketing angle yet you act like it was I that wrote the rulebooks...

I presented the same argument with the ZL1's "Ultimate Track Camaro" bullshit... Aren't you guys sick of falling for that?

Sorry, been fabricating...

NO NEED TO APOLOGIZE. YOUR HONEST ADMISSION IS ACCEPTED.

I think the question was "what is the z28 built for?" To beat Ford...
And that is EXACTLY what's been happening for now-22 PAGES. Fabrications.

"To beat Ford".

The Chief Engineer, only in passing, happened to say what he did about Ford (probably in a not-so-subtle response to Carroll's boast) and SUDDENLY this car is ALL ABOUT "beating Ford".

Much has been discussed, before that remark and since by Al and Mark Reuss and others, but the SOLE purpose of this engineering tour de force was/is to "beat Ford".

Again, look at the 'Ring times. What elite and expensive company does this car play with, even at a rain-dampened time of 7:37?

M3, the reported target of the BOSS LS? 'Way behind.

Ferrari? Check.

Porsche 911? Check.

Lambo? Check.

Mercedes? Check.

Audi? Check.

Lexus? Check.

Are we getting a sense of the quality of neighborhood it's cruising through/past? Check.

Oh, BTW, Ford? Check. And Challenger-Charger? Check, of course.

Only one factor remains.

A check. Drawn on your Bank.

Wait for the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca times. Telling, is what they'll be.

Check those out, too.

BTW, Pill, your German buddies must have a 'Ring time for the LS. What was it? Slower than the production GT500? Certainly slower than "Red", that freight train FRPP put together with a supposed dry-track time 2 ticks quicker than the Z/28 in the damp. I'm waiting for that fabrication.

1) So now you're offering a public service to protect "racers" from making a HUGE mistake? REALLY?!?! How magnanimous of you.

2) I follow the Z/28 threads on camaro5 fairly closely. NO ONE on there has said "I'm gonna buy a Z/28 and go win a Championship!" NO ONE.

More fabrication. Pure and simple.

While some scramble to place this piece of shit in a single class, they still claim competition doesn't matter. But still they continue to find this pig a home... Stop...

STOP, indeed!

Do not attempt to mislead people...

From the mouths of BABES. Your raison d'etre for this entire thread has been to mislead. In a misguided war on anything hinting of General Motors. Period.

I presented the same argument with the ZL1's "Ultimate Track Camaro" bullshit... Aren't you guys sick of falling for that?
Your "edit" is THE most telling diatribe of these sorry 22 pages.

"Is there a Doctor in the HouZe"?

Very good! Now I think you've got it.
You really think after sadly discovering that they'd brought a knife to a swordfight with the ZL1 vs GT500 that Chevy/Al wouldn't be bringing a gun the next time? History be damned, you can't set yourself up to have your performance-measure ass handed to you twice in a row.

...and your prepared for another round? Another ZL1 vs. GT500? That didn't work out to well did it?

...and yes, when this thread started, nobody was aware. It was a mass misconception. There are few that still try to shoehorn it into a class but, Al O. himself knows better.

Fabrication and Engineering: you know the things I talk about, I actually do. Chassis fabrication/engineering for Street Rods and Motorsport. Which is why I take Motorsport seriously.

No apologies from me... I didn't engineer a useless application.

When you guys get flustered, you say some dumb shit... and completely avoid the argument. Suggesting the ST and SU classes are just beyond dumb. There are still classes that do not require cages regionally (Solo/TT,/SS). Most here are ready to discredit PRO ROAD RACING in order to better market a turd.

Does nobody really think the z28 is stepping into another "GT500" ass whoopin' come GT350? You do realize that Ford is building a few levels to spec right?

Maybe in 2017 you can buy the real, real, real Ultimate Track Camaro.

Woah, slow down there turbo. When you say the Z/28 is a complete failure, that's some pretty dumb shit too. A complete failure in an officially sanctioned event, maybe. But I've pointed out on several occasions that GM is probably not going to have much of an issue selling their (very limited production) Z/28.

IF the Z/28 was more like what the 1LE is (A track version of the SS) and had a HUGE price tag, I would agree with you. However that isn't the case. The average person (with ANY Camaro or Mustang) are not likely to track their car in professional events. Some will, but most wont. Most do casual track days/events whether it is an open event or a club event. The point being, the few times that the owners of this new Z/28 actually do take it out on a track it will be able to beat a Boss that John Doe owns from down the street, it will be able to beat a GT w/ track pack that Marry Jane owns from around the corner, etc. I do not get why there is this stigma that IF you buy the Z/28 you HAVE to race it in sanctioned track events, because lets face it the market of individuals that will buy the Z/28 do not really care about that. They see "HUGE front tires" "Nice CC brakes" "Great 'Ring time" all that marketing crap. THAT is what they're buying into. The few people that are turned off by the Z/28 not being able to compete in (fill in sanctioned event here) are easily replaced by people that I've already mentioned.

I think it is foolish to think that Ford is going to sit back and not address the Z/28...

Hopefully, since the 6th gen. Is supposed to be on the lighter Alpha platform, but I'm sure GM will find a way to make it heavy. :frusty:

Solo is not racing, it's a timed skilled driving event. Don't confuse the two because the insurance rates required for races is INSANE compared to what is required for Solo. Solo indeed does NOT require a cage but it's also not a professional sport, it's barely semi-professional and even at the National level it's no where near serious enough to even have that title. I know, I've been there twice, competed once and aside from life changes was planning to continue to participate since it's 40 minutes away.

I'm still not sure what Pro Racing has to do with the Z/28 since the Z/28 is a street car. The SS will continue to be GM's car for professional road racing modified by whatever company is doing it (Stevenson?) currently. The Z/28, despite it's name sake wont ever be that car and it isn't slated to be either.

Says the lame that suggested SU as an appropriate class. That is comical...

I agree though with Whiskey, the z28 is not a car for the track. An SS would be a better option with a 1LE as a best bet for most classes.

Sorry man, this z28 missed the mark as far as a hard core, track ready option. Only in Chevy land can you claim road course dominance without every winning (or even try to compete) with Ford.

If they built the car to win at magazines, that's a huge failure. I still couldn't get by the sandbagging... After the last two years of marketing, I can't trust them with anything .

So let's see if I have this straight . . . it's OK for an individual or small business to do chassis development work for a street rod, which won't fit into any sanctioned racing class whatsoever, but it's a fail worthy of utter contempt for Chevrolet to do virtually the same thing?

In either case, the owner is going to buy what he wants to buy and drive it as hard as he dares in whatever activity he chooses (and which lets him run). Run what ya brung, from two (vastly) different manufacturing levels.

I won't comment on the usability of many street rods - I think they're neat and I'm tempted to build one that has cornering as its principal attribute.

But don't you think that being so stridently against the Z/28 has worn out its welcome even on a Mustang forum?

That much I'll absolutely give you.

That isn't the car's fault, nor was the "8/10ths" driving and cruising on the straights in the Milford video.

But maybe from here on out, any S550 GT350 will at least have the benefit of at least a vague target to shoot for. Time will tell how successfully.

I personally wanted to see a '13 Z/28 (based on my Z/28 of course) and another refreshed '14 this year. I had heard about the Z sometime during early 2011. What Chevy should have done is...

Offer the base Z28 (not 1LE) for a majority of entry level competition and events. This would have started at the 1LE's $38k. Next, satisfy the hardcore with the Z28 1LE package... Just like the original, stripped (Boss 302LS). To satisfy FIA/SCCA/USC and NASA Pro, offer the Z28.X (based on the SSX, still using the 6.2).

Here is where we get fancy... The Z/28 Carbon (Your LS7) and a Z28.R (to satisfy Pro OEM rules (Boss 302R). The Z28 1LE would price right at the LS.

Z28
Z28 1LE
Z28.X
Z/28 Carbon
Z/28.R

I smell $$$ and all avenues covered as far as heritage, classes and usefulness. They could still price a Z-Carbon right where it is going to be now.
