This thread has gone round and round and round.

No one has stated what class or series the Z28 will be legal to race in and what modifications will be neccesary to do it.

Anyone (maybe you Camaro guys) care to list the class along with said modifications needed?
Everything you need to know can be found here for the class:

http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/Super-Touring.pdf

And here for required safety mods:

How about we talk this out and make it clear for everyone besides a "go look here" response. Let's spell it out and actually discuss this down to ALL the steps that will be required. Hell....we have gone on for 21 pages so this should work.

There are five Super Touring classes—Super Touring 1 (ST1), Super Touring 2 (ST2), Super
Touring 3 (ST3), Super Touring R1 (STR1), and Super Touring R3 (STR3)—with STR1 and ST1
being the higher performance level classes of the five.
Which of the five classes are we saying this Z28 will qualify for.

The classes are based on weight to RWHP. Since nobody knows exactly how much the car will weigh or how it will dyno it is impossible to say at this point. Also you are free to mod the weight and horsepower to get you into the sweet spot of your chosen class.

Soooooo.......it's still in the air then but from a "what it's eqipped with now" perspective it won't slot in anywhere at the moment.

It will slot somewhere, we just don't know where. ST3 will probably be easiest, but ST2 may be doable for someone who wants to get aggressive with power and weight mods. In the end this will be up to the owners to decide which way they want to go. Some may choose ST3, and others ST2.

So is it fair to assume the CC brakes and wide tires will be out.

No problem with either of those. Read the rules.
Hey I'm just trying to clear the air on some of this stuff. It was said several times they would be out in this thread so now you say they won't.

So CC brakes and tires are in....correct.

I'm not familar with the rules. Upon skimming them it appears tires and wheels are unlimited. I didn't see anything about brakes upon skimming the rules.

I certainly never said that about the ST class. The brakes are an issue in the American Iron class, not the ST class.

Thanks for the post.....fun thread but maybe we can hammer out a definate yes or no on some things.
Not jolly likely. No sense of sensibility, present. No response, either.

[crickets]

Since Ford and GM are largely in the business of selling VIN-equipped vehicles and not race cars, why is it so damned important the Z/28 specifically fits ANY class? This point of contention seems to be a dull roar conceived by one biased and, therefore, misguided soul, and a few others have followed along like sheeple. Why?

These cars (BOSS LS and Z/28) are built in tiny numbers, relatively. Sold to those who seriously want them. For WHATEVER purpose they deem fit to use them for. Garage art. Track car. Sculpture in front of the race track condo garage. WHATEVER.

To go and bang fenders with others? Buy a clapped out rental, B-I-W, or used one and do the mods you want. And then build to whatever class your little heart desires. Or buy a BOSS 302s or R, if you're so inclined. Does GM have a comparable car to those? No, but they can put you in touch with a builder or three who can build whatever you, and your wallet, want. End prices similar to FRPP.

[still crickets]

I can agree with all of this.

I do think it's disappointing the Z28 wasn't made to slot right into a class with the Boss. Whether it was a BOSS 302R or S model it went heads up with or any BOSS or regular GT. I kind of thought they would have made it to go directly head to head with the Mustang on a track.
