My GT PP is a daily driver. It's not ideal as a DD but it works. Traffic kind of sucks with the stick but this car performs way better with the stick. The Ford Auto is not a performance tranny at all.
Auto is so much more comfortable. Not sure why you would make work for yourself by manually shifting with no benefit involved.

I owned a 2014 v6 last year for that exact reason. Wanting to save money. A year later I own a V8 and the amount I spend on gas hasn't changed much. I honestly say happiness over shadows any excuse I'VE made to settle for less. I personally say get the V8 only because it will keep you happy. Or you may spend the next year wishing or wondering as I did.

Coming from a guy who is not a die hard V8 Fan.
Why do you assume someone is settling for less by getting the v6 or ecoboost? I am happy with getting the ecoboost. In fact I wouldn't get the v8 if it was a free upgrade. I enjoy spending less in gas, seeing 400+ miles range on my screen, spending less in insurance. Not only that but it saved me around $4000 or more on the initial purchase. I don't want the v8. Simple as that really. I'm glad you're happy but you're wrong in assuming someone settled by getting a v6 or eco.

The benefits are driver involvement and enjoyment. I bought a 2013 Challenger R/T and went for the auto so my wife could drive it. A week later I traded if for a manual! Having a car like that with an auto just seemed completely pointless and I felt like I might as well be driving a minivan. It was an expensive mistake! That's just me though, I can see how that's a personal thing.

The things that are not subjective are fuel economy and performance. The auto should be better on both of these. I guess on a circuit, the manual might be better, but to me, Mustangs are more about drag racing, and the auto should be superior there.

I'd assume someone that was better on a circuit with a manual vs an auto would be a rare individual. Highly unlikely it's anyone here. Most of those guys are on some racing forums somewhere.

Not at all judging your personal situation. I simply made a statement In reference to an experience that the op and I have simiarity in. In this case op said his comin from a car with 400bhp and questioning if the 2.3 would be an ideal choice or not.

In "real world" driving. how often is 435BHP "better" than 320bBHP? A 0-62 time of 4.8 vs. 5.8? Top speed of 158 vs. 148?

The V8 is more powerful - no question - but also heavier on fuel, and around town a lot heavier. I am just pleased we have the choice available!

About 15 years ago I had a v8 Camaro, bought new as my DD, and I really enjoyed it. But I very rarely used the limits of the performance envelope - and the fastest I ever got it up to was around 135 on the German autobahns. The car could go faster and was still accelerating pretty well, but everything was happening so fast that I became the limiting factor.

It's good to know the performance is there if you need it, but I come back to the EB power & torque are, for me at least, perfectly acceptable.

If I hadn't already had the Camaro then I probably would have gone for the added glamour of the V8... but fuel prices drove me to the EB. Which is exactly why Ford developed their EB engines.

I feel you! One could make the same analogy between a GT and a Gt350 - settling for less by getting the 5.0 instead of the 5.2. There is always a car with better performance out there. No one is settling for less when buying a car that exactly fills their needs. The ecoboost is very capable in every situation I could ever imagine myself getting into. I don't feel like I've settled for less at all.

The wife wants me to get the 2.3 (she's more sensible than me) but i just feel the V8 is a niche in the UK for the money. Also as i commute by train, mpg is not really a concern for weekend drives. Can fully understand peeps getting 2.3, i suppose it depends on individual circumstances.

For me its about the heart.
The V8 could have less power than the 2.2 for all I care and I would still want it. Its about the sound and the fact that its is what it is!
I have the money and mpg are not really an issue.
The head would never buy a V8 but this is a battle I have let the heart win!

I agree the Ecoboost is more than adequate and faster than any car I have ever owned.

OK, point taken. What I meant was that it's not a 'normal' way most people would but a car - i.e. ÂŁ1000 deposit on a Ford they've never even seen, let alone driven and have to wait a year for. If someone had told me I'd be doing this, a couple of years ago, I'd have looked at him like your neighbour looked at you.
Seeing it in black and white I think I must be MAD! What normal person does that?
BTW, my wait from deposit to delivery will be 19 months IF I get it in November.
What an idiot I am!
Best decision I ever made.

I could be wrong but I think a lot of you v6 or eco guys are in your feelings with this "settling" thing. I been around enough to see the v8 guys bash the v6 guys for the last few gens and I'm sure it goes back further than that. Which is why I stated in not a die hard v8 fan. I don't care about the size of an engine I just care about the care meeting my expectations. Again the op stated he is coming from a 400bhp car so his expectations are a lil higher. So in his case I say v8. If he was coming from a pontiac g6 is say v6 or eco because they are a step up.

As far as me saying happiness has overshadowed any excuse I made to settle, that applies to life in general not just engines. Why settle with anything when you know you want something else.
You would begin to wonder and second guess when you could have got what you wanted. The eco is a pretty great car all in all but would it meet his expectations with him coming from a 400bhp car? Idk but I know the v8 has a better chance to meet it.
So don't take it as me saying anything about your choice I don't know you nor your wallet so your decision isn't on my mind. I was simply sharing a personal experience with the op.

To some its not about using its full potential. Some of us drag race some of us street race some love the sound and some is just the fact if knowing if I wanted to make the car do this without mods I can. But the most important one is some does it for happiness and satisfaction. Which should be the reason for purchasing any car eco v6 or v8.

For decades I've never agreed with muscle cars being made in anything other than a V8. This goes for all makes & models, and not just Mustangs.

This my own POV and not knocking anyone's preferences.
