Look at it from Fords perspective. Not many people bought them base; it costs Ford more to have the no-ac variation. What they've done now is give them the exact same base with minimal bolt-on changes to make the "track" base model into a tech or an R.
No argument there. Outside a purely built race car there's no way I'd omit A/C.

My own scenario:

I have a '16 R allocation on order with the Electronics Package. I really don't need the radio, and a flat-out don't want the navigation. But I have to have A/C, and in '16 that's the only one way to do that.

The base '17 R, assuming it has A/C and no radio or navigation is really ideal for me. Lightning Blue could be a great option too...

I'm in wait-and-see mode right now. Worst case I get a '16 R. :)

It's coming up on 6 months for me. After this wait, there's no way that I'll NOT take delivery of my R.

The best part is every version will have transmission and differential coolers standard. No Competition Orange available for any GT350 version in 2017. So far in 2016 that makes mine 1 of 51 with that color.

I was torn between CO and RR. In the end, Red won me over...enjoy it. I might not ever see an Orange GT350 around here.

I see it as being exactly the same as 2016.

The Electronics pack adds the list above and the list below to the R, which were specific options deleted as part of the R package. A/C is not standard.

From today's press release:

“Ford Performance is always listening to customer feedback,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “At the end of last year we started offering a back seat option for Shelby GT350R due to customer demand..."

That is news to me. I know there is a kit, but a factory installed option? If so, presumably a rear seat will be an option on the '17 R as well. Has anyone with a '16 R ordered the rear seat?

I think the option they are talking about is to buy it from FP, not a "factory installed" option. Would be attractive to some, I'm sure but I like that it comes bare. :)

I like to disassemble things.
Pericak should have been a little clearer. By "option" (at this point anyway) he's referring to the fact that FRPP (or whatever their new official name is) carries the seat kit. Stanglife is correct.

His comment is no doubt creating confusion.
