Hello everyone.

So I have a bunch of questions... I’ve searched but haven’t been able to put everything totally together.

I’m in Ontario Canada. I’m looking for a 15-17 GT convertible automatic.

I test drove 5 yesterday. Each one of course was listed as “loaded”. I had a few dealers tell me crazy things (I think).

Never realized there so many GT convertible daily rentals out there! Car proof and history... don’t get started on those...

How do I know exactly what option package is on the car? Is there any sure fire way to know this looking at the car?

I have some info about the 400a and the 401a but I’m not sure what exactly comes in those packages and don’t know what the year on year changes were.

Was a heated steering wheel ever an option? Was told by 1 dealer the car had it. I noticed some had a subwoofer in the trunk. What package is that?

I really like the ambient lighting - cup holders and door sills and the horse outside light shooting down from the mirrors. What package is that?

I also noticed the mirrors are all different. Some have the heat symbol on them, some had the blind spot notifications and some have the little small mirror in the top corner. Which is what?

I noticed 2 of the cars had no exhaust resonator. One of those 2 was ridiculously loud!!! Louder than my Vortech fox body with a completely horrible drone. The other was a Borla and it sounded sweet! Loud but not overly. No idea what exhaust. In the loud one.

Sorry for the rant.

So what I’m hoping for is a synopsis of how to spot the option packs on each model year. After going to 5 dealers and hearing so much BS about this and that, I need to be the expert because the dealers sure weren’t! The loud one the salesman told me they all sound like that! Said this was totally normal. Had a hard time saying that over the drone on the test drive but swore up and down after wards that this is just the way they sound. Too much salesman not enough honest man.

Thanks for the help!

Easiest way is to ask for the sticker.

If it has the touchscreen in the center, ambient lighting, and the projection lights it is a Premium. Ambient and projection are the more guaranteed ones because they are harder to swap in. Leather is easy to swap.

Heating steering wheel is 2018 I believe.

The BLIS and heat on the mirror are most likely the Safe and Smart package, I think they come bundled together.

Big brakes and black wheels are easy signs of the Performance Pack.

Black hood vents, pedestal spoiler, and rocker/hood spear stripes are the Cali Special.

Sub in the back is Shaker Pro I believe. 9 speaker is just Shaker, they have the thing in the middle under the HVAC.

Here is the information you want from Ford http://www.buyford.com/carresearch/Vehicle-Quote.html/year_2017/make_Ford/model_Mustang/trim_GT%20Premium/id_35627/confid_buyford/section_Options/ This is for 2016 & 2017 MY.
MY 2015 will not have Sync3 infotainment system is has MyFordTouch infotainment system instead. The easiest way to tell the 401a is it has the sub-wolfer in the right side of the trunk and the outside mirrors don't have the wide angle mirrors in the outside corners. I would try to get a 16-17 401a car. I had a 2015 400a GT before I got my 2016 401a GT and I can tell you the 401a car with the Sync3 infotainment system is worth the extra money. In a used car purchase there a lot of factors to look at but do your homework. A car salesmen is usually trying to sell you the car they have and will say whatever it takes to make a sale whether information their giving you is correct or not.

Quick way to identify:

All convertibles were "Premium" (except for V6) that come with Leather and all of that, including the advanced security package.

The 401a came with upgraded stereo (HD radio and better speakers, you will notice the sub in the back), BLIS (no blind spot mirrors with illumination dot instead) and memory seat. Navigation was a standalone option. So was Adaptive Cruise Control (lower grill will not have "fangs") and reverse sensing (little dots on the back bumper). Premier trim could be found on a few cars (was standard on 50yrs package, softer leather seats, soft upper door trim, corral pony grill, 50yrs on the seats).

Starting with 2016 Performance Package could be added, most obvious difference is the black unique wheels (ask if you need to see a picture).

Hope that helps, ask more if you need more. :)

Couple more things to complete the answer, all will come with the pony lights, heated side mirrors and my color interior lighting. Rain sensing wipers combined with the Adaptive Cruise.
