Had a tow strap break when trying to get the car off the freeway. The tow strap went under both tires, locked, and broke the headlight (Had the strap attached in the engine bay).

Anyways, need a new headlight. Car is a 2015 GT. New OEM from Ford is $1600 (FR3Z13008N), and even through discounted OEM dealers, it is still over $1000. Either trying to decide between buying a used one or going aftermarket on both. The problem is I like the look of the stock headlights. I see some decently priced sets that are oem style with black housing which I don't think I am opposed to.

Has anyone been in a similar situation replacing an oem headlight? Have you used oem style aftermarket headlight assemblies and had good results? Or is my best bet just trying to find a good price used on online?

Thanks!

Buy a used one from a reputable salvage yard like LKQ. That's where the body shop I use gets OEM parts that Ford wants a fortune for. Most are pretty much indistinguishable from new.
There are also Mustang dedicated breakers that have decent reputations. Just search for mustang salvage yard.

No idea why ford is charging so much, when dealerships are selling it online for $1000 I know they are just upmarking it crazy because even the dealerships arent paying anything close to $1600. Shelby headlights are actually $200 cheaper and they usually markup all the shelby specific parts.

Good mention for LKQ, I'll see what they have

Edit: No-go for LKQ, they are asking about $1000 for every headlight they have

I would recommend OEM if you can swing it. I’ve never ever had good experiences with aftermarket headlights or tail lights. Leaks, fit issues, clouding from UV after a year due to shitty coatings, headlight adjusters that don’t work etc

I think if you're just replacing one, it would be hard to match the fade or patina of the other side. I've had good luck with aftermarket headlights, I also think all headlights should be clear wrapped (it keeps the UV/clearcoat from getting rock chips and failing).

That is what I am worried with going aftermarket, I don’t want to spend a ton on headlights when I have a lot of go fast parts to buy but I also don’t want to get aftermarket headlights that give me issues and I have to replace in a year haha

Is there a specific brand you have used and had good luck with?

Try looking on Midway Mustang website.

A good suggestion. They have this one. I don't know if it's the correct one for the OP but it's 1/4 new price. I'd say that they are definitely worth a call. Most salvage yards are part of a huge network and can often get you a part even if it's not on their lot.

It’s not bad, does have a hole in the housing but the hole isn’t on a visible section so probably could just put some clear epoxy and sand

That was really just an example of what is available from a suggested site.
I would suggest a Google search for Mustang specific salvage yards. There are a bunch across the country. There are two within an hour or so of me in central Georgia. Once you find one, call them. I would suspect you will find one reasonabley close to you.
There are also yards where you can pull your own part. They often list their inventory online so you can see if it's worth a trip. I have 4 "Pull-a-Part" yards within 45 minutes of me.
Also, most reputable salvage yards will belong to a network and can get you parts from all over.
You might also try asking at a local body shop for likely places to find what you need.
