10 Speed Automatic Transmission for 2016

I'm all for it but I'm not waiting 2,3,4?? years for it & the Challenger has no driveability so anything is an improvement. The Mustang on the other hand has very good drivieability (& I could only speak for the '13, so I'm amusing the '15 is even better) so it would be much less apparent.
Also the transmission added $1000 to the car's price, I don't feel like doing the math so I'll let someone else but it would take a while to recover that with a couple better mpgs.

Isn't there a history with Ford doing something just like this after the new model year hits?

Yes a long one. They even carried over the old F code 5.0 from the Mustang II into the Fox for exactly one year in '79.. but we usually know about it before hand, when they redesigned the '10 everyone knew the 5.0 / 3.7 were coming.
I'd say we don't see a 10 or whatever spd for at least 2-4 yrs.

edit: That's my guess of course, we should start a poll and see who's right.

I think if the 2016 F150 gets it coming up, that the Mustang will as well.

It'll be a shame if it takes Ford 3-4yrs. The challenger has it now, the GMs will have it next year, the bimmers, the baby audis and mercs...every car Mustang supposedly competes or wants to compete against has a modern ultra fast shifting box with a lot of gears and Ford is 3-4 years away? I dont think so. Or better said I dont want it to be so.

With regards to necessary...I see around a 10% improvement in real world acceleration improvement in those posted challenger numbers; getting on the freeway and doing a 30-80 and romping on it to get the blood pumping or driving a road course 60-110. 10% performance improvement and better mileage? Sign me up.

Yes but any performance gains would be minimal, the primary propose of them is still fuel economy, of course there's nothing wrong with that. but they are bigger, heavier and obviously have to changed gears more. We could speculate about the Mustang but Dodge just did it this year, here's some stats on the Challenger R/T. While it did improve it's hardly ground shattering.

I agree that it needs to be out next year. It really does. I mean they have the Camaro coming out and honestly I think they are saving this to be a 'new' thing for next year in the 2016.

Take it from me, there are no available 10 speeds right now to go into a '16 MY.

I really like the idea of a 10 speed box. It gives you more flexible parameters for someone building a "purpose built" car, maybe even having different ratios for different tracks but I guess they could do that now. Don't be jealous of the Chrysler 8spd box though, I have one and wish I didn't.

I think everyone needs a chance to drive a car with the new zf 8 speed. For me the difference between even the zf 6 spd and the new 8 is huge. From my experience it wasnt 'flat out' that was that big of a difference, but the 'day to day' driving experience with responsiveness, and keeping the engine in its torque band completely changed what I thought an auto could be.
At the time I had it, I got to compare my a4 with one with the zf8, all else equal. In normal driving it made the car seem more powerful, responsive, and more nimble/ light on its feet. Not midly different but staggeringly so imo. And again this is during all normal driving conditions, the trans is alway where it needs to be and shifts faster and smoother than you can notice without paying attention.
Also keep in mind the zf8 not only has more gears, but is lighter and has less loss than the zf6..

If Ford can pull off a similarly good trans with the 10spd I am all for it.

I couldn't agree more. There is a reason everyone licensed the zf 8 speed. It is that good of an auto.

No 10speeds available for mustang in 16MY is a lot different than no 10speeds being ready for 16MY. I could understand Ford deciding F150 gets priority until there is sufficient capacity.

So I've asked a few of the reviewers who have driven the 2015 Auto (GT/EB) about the transmission and one wrote back that they definitely feel that the automatic Mustang needs more gears.

What do you think the odds are that the 2016 Mustang will get this transmission?

And I've read that some think 10 speed is too much and 6 is fine?

Thoughts?

Why not go Super Car vice Pony Car... Put in an 8 speed Dual clutch flappy paddle set up with all wheel drive... Ford should be able to sell those due to high numbers of sales for about $90K, hell why not!:shocked:
