Hi all

since some time I experience the following when cold starting the car after it parked for more than 24 hours: when I engage R or D it takes a few seconds for the gear to engage, meaning I have to accelerate more in order to start moving the car… after that all is fine.

Anyone experiencing the same?

I’ve experienced the same. Mine is kept in a garage and I reverse out. Sometimes I have to wait a few seconds after engaging reverse before it will move and it’s fine after that. I’ve always assumed it’s a characteristic of the transmission so haven’t looked into whether it’s an issue or not. Now that you’ve mentioned temperature, it does appear to be more prevalent when cold.

Haven't noticed it in my Mustang because it will typically warm up a little longer before moving it, but my 10R F150 has always done that. I assume it's just the time it takes for the pump in the transmission to start building pressure. I feel like if I let the truck warm up for a few more seconds before going into reverse it doesn't happen. I haven't noticed it to be ambient temp related.

That’s the conclusion I came to. We’ve not had many warm days since I bought the car last November and I don’t use it every day so the temperature may or may not be relevant in my case, but tbh I haven’t really paid that much attention to it.
