Looking to get 1/4" or 7mm spacers to bring my wheels out flush. Is this to thick for the stock studs? At what point do you need to get longer studs?

Thanks

1/4" is the razors edge of not needing them. Any thicker and you'll need longer studs.

Front and rear? On my 2018 the front studs are nearly 1/4" longer than the rear. Mechanically you need at least 7 complete threads for a nut to achieve its max holding power. Tire Rack says 7.5 or 8 threads depending on your thread pitch.

https://m.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=39&

You can figure out how thick you can go by counting threads. Remove a lug nut and reinstall it counting the number of turns until tight (properly torqued). Subtract, let's use 8 threads, from that and you now know the number of 'extra' threads you have. You can then multiply the extra threads by 1.5mm (the pitch or length of each thread on 14x1.5mm lug nuts) to calculate how thick you can go. I'd measure the front and rear just to be safe.

So, do you guys think its probably better to error on the side of caution and go with spacers that have studs built in? seems like it wouldn't be worth the trouble to only push the wheels out a 1/4" inch.

1/4" will make the backs flush and just push the fronts out a little more when using my aftermarket wheels. In order to get flush all around I need 7mm in the rear and 16mm in the front but I don't want to have to take off the spacers in the winter when I swap back to my stock 18"s that I have my winter tires on. I felt like having some simple slip on spacers that are all the same size would be a happy medium.

I doubt you'll find 1/4" spacers w/studs, no enough material to hold the studs. Perhaps spacers in the front and spacers w studs in the rear?

+7mm would make me worried.

I have a 15 GT and did 1/4" spacers front/rear with my first rims. I drag raced the thing at the track without issues. If memory serves me I got 7-8 revolutions per lug nut.The rim may determine stud depth too possibly.

Hmmm, maybe I'll just go with some 5mm spacers and be done with it. Any recommendations on a brand to go with or are the generic ones they sell on AM/CJ's good enough?

Brand won't matter too much, but make sure they're hubcentric and as wide as the rotor seating area if possible. Non-hubcentric ones are a PITA, and too small diameter puts extra stress on things.

Wheel spacers are already inexpensive, why are you trying to cheap out on them even further? Just get the ones that come with their own studs. American Muscle has one-inch hub-centric spacers with their own studs, I've got em on all four corners with the stock wheels.
