Rough, Hunting idle and crank won't relearn

I'm getting some negative spark (not knockR) at idle and when blipping the throttle from idle. Never noticed this before, although I've never really looked either. Total spark looks normal while driving, and The car is always adding timing. I've never seen a + knockR. Just at idle and revving from idle the spark jumps around all over the place and I just happened to glance down and see some negative numbers today.

To clarify, the numbers are not always negative...it hovers around 7-10 at idle but every now and then a negative number will pop up for a split second. Me when just tipping in the throttle for a quick rev I'm seeing a negative number for a split second.

I know negative readings in the knockr pid add timing. What I'm describing is negative values in the total spark pid.

So what exactly your question?

Negative timing advance is possible and a normal cause of action for certain instances calculated by the ECU.

Well, that escalated quickly
My question was whether or not seeing negative spark at idle was normal as I had never seen it before. I went and drive the car some more and noticed that the idle had gotten a bit erratic. Its probably coincidental, but I tuned the car a week ago and now I'm having problems... I decided to flash the stock tune back to see if it had the same issue. As soon as I did, it made me perform a crank relearn. Did that no problem and it seemed better on the stock tune. I figured maybe it just need a crank relearn so I flashed my Lund tune. Immediately the idle was all over the place. Way more erratic than before. I drove the car to get a log to send for review. Car still runs like a raped aped, it just idles all over the place. Bouncing from 500-1000 RPM and feels like its got a bad misfire. I didn't have any CEL but I Tired another crank relearn since it seemed to help the first time. It took about 6 tries but I got it to relearn. Seemed better, but still not good. SO I deided it's time to make a trip to the dealer to see if maybe its got a vacuum leak (cracked intake manifold?) or some other sensor bad somewhere. I'm praying they don't blame the tune. As of right now it idles like doodoo on the stock tune and has a CEL for a crank relearn. I tried to relearn it several times and it would not work.


I don't have much faith in service departments, but hope I luck out. Any ideas what they might find? Should I expect them to tell me I'm SOL because I had the car tuned?

Once again things have escalated quickly. I started the car this morning and noticed a very strange feel to the clutch pedal. Car won't go into any gear either. I suspect the clutch took a dump and hopefully this explains all of the above. We'll see

did you send in a datalog to lund? they are the ones to ask.

I sent a log to Lund and they said it looked fine. Which make me question how closely they looked, because the car was misfiring badly at idle in the log I sent. To their credit I'm sure the majority of the log looked fine as the car was still running great at that point.

I've found a local mod friendly dealer that knows the situation and will be looking at the car next week when I can have it towed there.

What ever happened with this? What was the resolution for you?

This was a long time ago

The crank relearn wouldn’t perform because the coolant temp was too high, and the idle was goofy because the throttle body went bad somehow. Had it replaced under warranty and the car has been fine for 15k miles or so
