I have recently fitted a Mantic clutch and flywheel. After nursing it for 500 miles went to pull over 4000 and got mis fire codes, CEL etc. I reckon it needs a crank relearn and having just downloaded the new Lund Ngauge firmware crank relearn is now under diagnostic settings. However there is a warning, it states only do if necessary, if this fails then it could render the vehicle inoperable until the issue is fixed. That's a bit scary to just sit in my garage and do …………….does anyone have experience of doing this, what are the fail chances.
I have a whipple SC on the car so have no idea if that will affect the ability of the NGauge to do a crank relearn, given the tune is clearly not stock. There is no way I can put the car back to stock and rev it etc,
If not comfortable I may drive to one of the few mustang specialists in the area. I don't want a dead car in the garage. Any experience welcome, its great its on the Ngauge now, but I am not technical...….

I’ve done the crank relearn plenty of times with the Ngauge from clutch changes to just transmission pulls. I am also Whipple supercharged and had to do it with those installs as well.. I have no hesitation to recommending running a crank relearn. It should always be done with a clutch change.

Thanks for this, have you come across the issue of the ngauge not doing a crank relearn owing to the fact that the tune and operating system is now whipple? THe Ngauge is provided by lund when i had an old tune, so the tune on the car is nothing to do with them

The crank relearn isn’t associated with a tune; just additional software that allows you to do it as opposed to going to a Ford dealership. Doesn’t matter if your tune is stock or Whipple or aftermarket. I’ve used it on all three versions.

I also have done a crank relearn via nGauge a dozen or so times. There are certain criteria that have to be met in order for it to be successful though. AC off, coolant temp within a certain range, probably a few other things.

Well the answer is - the lund ngauge worked a treat, with the whipple and modified tune it took about 1 min start to end. SO that was easier than i had hoped for ! Result.

Now i need to sort my tuning issue out. Gets to 6500 RPM, shows 730bhp then cuts throttle......looks like a case for Palm Beach and a boost a pump !

So, rezzing this recent thread - on a whipple Lund car, did you do the crank relearn because you had misfire codes and/or a check engine light? Ir did you do it because you're supposed to do it with flywheel/clutch swaps?

I read someone did it who was not showing a CEL/misfire codes and got a check engine light they could not clear and I don't know if they ever figured it out or not.

I've swapped clutches and flywheels and want to do a relearn but am afraid to do so without a CEL/misfire code.

Can anyone confirm if doing the relearn is safe to do with a Lund ngauge if there's no CEL showing ? I'm thinking it's a good idea swapping flywheels to do this procedure (I've done it plenty of times with X4 and whipple flare in past and never heard of possibly making vehicle inoperable like the warning suggests in the ngauge.)

Self-solved. I ran through the steps and the check engine light came on during the relearn process. It then cleared when it said completed succesfully. Here's what the steps look like for those looking for this info.

So I’m having a misfire cel after installing Lund e85r tune Mabie after 1kmiles and 7passes at the track changed the plugs thinking it would be that and 3 were cracked I’m changing the plugs again because the code came back after 200ish miles ! I got with my tuner he said I was supposed to do a crank relearn when I installed my headers and cobra jet since I did them both the same day so I’m going to try that today and do a crank relearn crossing my fingers !!! Also doing the crank relearn will it completely erase the codes or will they still be saved in the Ngauge ? Because when I went to the diagnostics and just pushed clear codes it turned the cel off but the codes still saved in the nagauge
