Hey everyone!

After a long thought I spoke with my wife. I'm finally going to start to turbo the Stang! I won't use any kit that cost over 5k! It'll be all home made. However I still have a quick question... Can I run the Stang on stock ECU at 5-8psi (Without pushing on it until I get a tune for it)? Or should I go ahead and add an FMU? If everything goes right I will make a tutorial and post some photos on my step by step. I'm going to try to make it as easy as possible. I believe our V6 has a lot of potential and I want to make it affordable and easy to build for someone that wish to do the same on his/her car. I'll try to keep everyone updated as much as I can. This project is only on my free time but it shouldn't take years to build the set up:p. Also, I live in Austin Texas near the COTA and looking for someone that could help me out to weld.

Update: 06/16/16

Went to Ford today to fix a problem I had with my transmission. Since couple weeks I had an issue in Sport mode (sometimes in D) from 3rd to 4th gear the car didn't shift correctly It's slippery and started to get worse. I never had time to give my car before but since I'm starting to mod it and add turbo to it I want to fix first. I should have my car back within 10 days :) I will keep y'all updated whenever I get it back! Also I ordered an electric welder it should arrive right when I get back the car!!! So impatient I miss my Stang already :(

Update: 6/17/16

Here's the most recent picture I've got from my Stang when I dropped it off at the garage. (Need a good car wash but since I'm sure they're going to dirty it and wash it for me... haha)

Update: 06/18/16

Went to Ford to let them know the issue with my drive shaft that Ping. I was looking around the forum until I get back my car and saw that a lot of people got the same issue. Since they're going to check my transmission might as well replace my drive shaft...:D I also showed him a Ford copy of a work order from a member of the forum and he said he will pass the information nationwide. Here's the topic I'm talking about: http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50410&highlight=drive+shaft

Quick update (06/23/16): I ordered the 5.0 emblem and the GT deck lid emblem. I also got the front bumper of a 2016 GT PP. I'm still waiting on my car to be fixed and get my wire welder.

Update (06/25/16):
I finally found a tuner that can tune our V6! I looked everywhere around except near me... This shop is 15 minutes away from my house and I pass in front of them everyday on my way to work. They tune Lambo, Porsche, Ferrari,... They have a guy they call the Mustang freak :D Well Just need to wait on Ford to give me back my car back and my welder is suppose to arrive today. The turbo is on it's way as well!!!:amen:

Welder received guys!!! :headbang:

If by "On stock ECU" you mean on the stock tune, no, at least I wouldn't try it. Good luck on the build, looking forward to seeing updates!

Yes I meant stock tune. I was thinking running 5PSI at first without tune and without pushing high RPM. or go 8PSI and maybe put an FMU on stock tune and then later put a tune on. Or I'll be glade to pay the fee from the manufacturer to flash my car with someone's tuner if that person let me borrow it. I don't mine loosing my stock tune. I might be able to get a backup of it somehow.

I know that the SCT tuner if it's lock on a tune you can contact the manufacturer and pay a fee to get it unlocked. If someone is able put back his car stock for a day or two and it doesn't bother. I'll get a tune from Bama or something and then I will pay the fee for him to unlock his tuner. If everything goes right with the tune then I'll be glad to share it for free! I don't mind helping the community :D Otherwise I'll just be patient to get a flasher for myself or check locally a shops.

You are going to need to have an experience shop tune it, ideally dyno tune it. Supersix Motorsports is releasing a kit to adapt the 3.5 Ecoboost turbos for use on the 3.7. That would probably be your cheapest bet, and apparently MPT will be providing tuning.

You cannot run a turbo engine on an NA tune, if you are lucky, the ECU will just freak out if it sees positive manifold pressure and just throw codes. If you are unlucky it will not run above idle at all. If the car had an AFM like the old ones you could just baby it, but MAP cars like the new mustang will barely run off idle without a tune.

Try to drive up a hill or something where you have even moderate load and you are likely to blow the engine.

Do you have a lot of experience building turbo kits and tuning Ford engines?

I have a question? Why not just trade the car in for the 5.0? That what I might be doing sometime soon. You'll probably end paying the same on it as well.

Just by curiosity. Do you know when and how much? I used to work at Ford and can still get discount from them. I remember that I could get a brand new manifold for the 3.5L engine for a little under $50. However I'm gonna use my stock Manifold and do the modification myself.

I see. even if I put an FMU on the car? I actually drive up hills to go to my work and I wouldn't like to blow up haha. However I can wait on a Bama tune or bring my car to a shop and they tune it for me.

Just enough to build a set up and have prices at Ford to get parts. I was all my life working on Ford cars. Mostly European. I used to have a Ford Racing Puma (doesn't exist here in the US) It was imported from UK.

Technically I could afford the GT but my insurance wouldn't give me a good deal. just for a Camaro SS 2011 it cost a little over $300! and the gas is rising up again here in Austin TX.:headbonk:

When you go into boost, you need to start pulling lots of timing, and I do mean lots, at full boost on 93, I see as little as 1 or 2 degrees in the mid range. Dumping fuel in it will help a bit but is not safe at all. So lets say you are driving the car on the stock tune and start going up a hill, normally you would be at part throttle pulling alot of vacuum at 3 k rpm. Engine is probably using 25-30 degrees of timing and running happy. With turbos, you would have to work hard to stay out of boost. You May keep the manifold at 0 psi but there is still lots more air going into the engine than NA. You try to put 25 degrees of timing through it, it will knock, really hard and may take out a piston before the knock sensors have a chance to pull timing.

I see..., Lets say I run only on flat to go to the shop will it be safe? I can use my bike to go to work it's not a problem. Maybe I can just unplug the turbo from the intake and just go with a regular air filter. Do you think Bama or SCT are able to make a tune for me? Or do you know how many PSI I can run safely on the engine just to be able to drive and waiting on tune or go to the shop? 1 or 2 PSI max? I'm looking to order a boost controller so I will be able to control the boost manually.

P.S: Here's the specs of the turbo that I might looking at to start the project:

Model: T04E T3/T4 .63

Compressor:
3" Inlet
50.55 Inducer
57 Trim

Turbine:
T3 Type Turbine Flange
.63 A/R
65.2 Inducer
56.06 Exducer

I used to have another turbo from the F150 that I got from Ford but I gave it away for parts.

Right now I'm going to get the intercooler and make some bracket for it.

P.S: For now I'm not looking at TT only single.

Ok so it sounds like you know your way around an engine bay. I would start a very close relationship with a local tuner. You are going to spend a lot of time and dollars at their place! ;) I look forward to watching your build! Good Luck!

Can't you trailer it to a shop to get it tuned? Get a buddy to with a truck/trailer to help you once you've done all the work, or rent a truck and trailer. Check out SuperSix Motorsports, like I said in my first post they are making a turbo kit and working with More Power Tuning (MPT). There are some threads in this forum talking about it.

You can actually do this, i did it on my skyline when I had a broken intercooler (bird strike) and had to get it home.

Keep your stock intake on your intake manifold
You will need an air filter on the inlet of the turbo as well to keep it from sucking up debris and leave the cold side of your intercooler disconnected, I put a fine wire mesh over it just to be safe. Finally you can disconnect your wastegate actuators and wire the wastegates open.

It will be making lots of wild turbo noises but will be safe to drive gently, without load, the turbos will be spooling like crazy so don't get on the gass real hard or you can over speed them and damage the bearings, I really would recommenced a tow but this is doable.

Thanks! I'm actually looking around. I used to know a good one but lately I saw some bad reviews on them... I wish I could do the tune myself. I kind of want to buy the hardware for it. When I used to have that Ford Racing Puma I had all Ford softwares and Tuner software / hardware. It was a fun little car. When I bought the turbo for it and everything was ready I crashed the car the same day. The brake didn't respond anymore :frusty:

Thanks for the link I saw it yesterday. However it looks like it'll be $2k build. Not bad compare to a supercharger kit at $6k! I thought about using a exhaust manifold from the F150 since I can get them pretty cheap and new... However I don't know if I should go for it and make my way around to make it fit on our engine. What I'm looking to build is something that doesn't require a lot of modification and cutting / welding or even swapping parts. I want to make this as easy as possible for everyone to boost their V6. This is why I'll try to keep this thread updated as much as I can and take pictures as much as I can. If I can get a tune that fits my stock V6 with that turbo. I'll do my best to extract it and share it. A turbo build isn't that bad... There's so many ways around. The only problem is to tune the car... I hope that once the project is done I will motivate people and if they need parts I'll try my best to hook them up.

I was thinking about it. Just put a regular air filter to the intake and put another one on the turbo and let the turbo spin in the empty. Like I said above. I want to make something that everyone can build as easy as possible and not to worry too much about mod your car to drive it to work or to the shop while it's in process... I know it's not easy for everyone and most of y'all are like me working and do your mods on free time!:D
