Has anyone managed to get any information regarding running costs for the S550?

I asked my local dealer at the launch event, however he did not have much information to hand.

The figures I have so far:

V8

  • MPG 20.9
  • Initial Road Tax £1,100 (£2000 if reg >= Apr 2017)
  • Annual Road Tax £505 (£140 if reg >= Apr 2017)
  • Servicing £? every 1 year/10k miles (?)
  • Tyres £170 per corner rear / £150 front

Ecoboost

  • MPG 35.3
  • Initial Road Tax £350 (£800 if reg >= Apr 2017)
  • Annual Road Tax £225 (£140 if reg >= Apr 2017)
  • Servicing £? every 2 years/24k miles
  • Tyres £150 per corner

Any other differences between the two manual fastback models? Any idea on servicing costs and interval for the V8?

Was told yearly service or "around 10k miles" by my dealer. At the end of the day its just a big motor, not especially sophisticated.

As long as you don't have a heavy right foot then the GT should get an mpg of around 24ish.

Think you're being hugely optimistic there, especially given the level of congestion suffered on our roads. I reckon you'll be looking at 15/16

I think it really depends on the type of driving you do - around town with lots of stopping & starting will really hurt... if you are cruising at a sensible speed for long distances then 25 or even more is easily possible.

Just remember - the throttle is a money valve - the more you press it, the more money drains from your bank account.

You don't drive a mustang to have low running costs - but you can control it to a certain extent.

There's a vid on YouTube of some guy doing a real world MPG test over in the States, and with a good mix of town and highway he was getting around about IIRC 20/21MPG which, when you do the conversion from US to UK gallons works out around about the 24 figure I mentioned.

As has been mentioned, nobody buys a V8 Mustang for it's frugality and mine will be driven hard on occasion, but I'm fully expecting to see over 20MPG on a decent run when I'm being sensible.

I hope that's the case otherwise my 3K-mile euro-roadtrips are going to be painful! Doh!

If it's the same video I'm thinking of it wasn't tank to tank? That's the only true way of getting mpg, a snapshot of 50 mile trip won't tell you anything.
I'm only expecting mid 20s from my ecoboost.

Yes, that's why I'm thinking about the Ecoboost rather than the V8. It should be pretty similar MPG to what I get now. 2 year servicing seems attractive too.

Drove the ecoboost premium in the US for 10 weeks, and it was about 23/24mpg. It was used as a daily drive with a several long highway trips, but even then rarely did it get better than 21mpg

The GT's MPG should be easier to achieve or surpass as a normally aspirated engine. The EcoBeast will struggle to meet its figure. The difference between the two will be smaller than on paper.
At least that's what i've been telling myself since I pulled the trigger...

I need to keep telling myself that too... and the trigger is not yet been pulled. :lol:

I wonder what servicing costs will be like? I guess around £200 for the Ecoboost judging by what I pay now for main dealer servicing on the ST (roughly £150-£200 depending on which service interval). However, as this is every two years/24k there might be a bit more that needs doing. Either way, I don't expect the Ecoboost to affect my servicing budget that much, however the V8 might need a bit more money putting aside (2x?).

Were you using the OBC figures or are those figures converted to UK gallons?

I am expecting something close to this. My Monaro averages a similar figure despite the EU official average being 18 mpg. Big V8s are no good at the test, but not at all bad in the real world unless its real heavy congested stuff. I doubt the Mustang will top the 30 mpg the Monaro does on a steady cruise however. Monaro servicing has been very cheap too, and I dont see why the Mustang will be any different.

Running costs for V8

But in all seriousness, looking at Fuelly and other such MPG tracking sites and converting to proper UK gallons, you'll get around 22mpg out of a GT.

Tank is around 55 litres to fill up (61 litres including reserve). So you're looking at around 260 miles per tank at £57.58 per visit (104.7p in my area).

That's actually pretty damn impressive. My Hot Hatch gets around the same miles per tank and is only £10 less per fill-up at 45 litres.
