I received mine a couple days ago. How much should i pay for installation? Whats the average?
Just install yourself and learn something new.

The reason I'm installing it myself is I do not know anyone I would be confident that they would read the detailed instructions and do exactly what they call for. I would trust many mechanics to do more difficult jobs because they do the exact same thing day after day. But this has lots of steps that are critical to best results that are NOT just intuitive or common sense. And too many mechanics believe they can go by their "experience". These are nothing like installing most aftermarket shifters.

It doesn't take that much in the skill area. just an attention to detail and willingness to take the time to follow the instructions to the letter.

Just my two cents.

I just recently purchased a used MGW shifter from a fellow member and it had a couple minor issues with it. I was missing the boot to insulate the shifter from the tunnel and the reverse spring was damaged internally.
I called up MGW and explained my issues and checked to see if I could purchase the parts that I needed. George mentioned that the spring should not be able to be damaged with the design of it and asked me to send it in to them for a good look over.

Well I received the shifter back today from MGW and at the least I'm extremely shocked with the support and quality put into these shifters. The commitment to detail on these units is remarkable! They rebuilt the entire top half of the shifter, cleaned and lubricated the entire unit, and tossed in not only a new boot but also the complete install kit and heat shields. They completed all of this for less than a case of beer plus shipping. Keep in mind that I didn't even purchase this unit from them.

Thank you so much MGW!!! I highly recommend their products to anyone looking for the best shifter out there.

Yeah, MGW is one class act.
Could not agree with you more!!

The service I received from everyone at MGW, whether working in the office or George himself was simply top-notch. I had some issues that I was working through after installing my shifter and George was always quick to respond and certainly went above and beyond what I expected to help me get my issue resolved.

Not only a great product, but service that is second to none! Won't be forgotten by me...

We have tweaked the throw to a little shorter due to customer requests but still maintain that too short is NOT good and can not only be notchy but also hard on the trans .

It is now close to 20 percent.

That would go well with a Labor Day 20% discount. :)

I may get this tomorrow. Two questions for the community, though.

First is I saw I can't use Ford's 50 years shift knob, correct?

Secondly, I do jump around the gearbox via double clutching downshifts. Not so much in this car, lol, but my Accord 5spd did see many 5th down to second shifts. Some comments a few pages back seemed to indicate this shifter would hamper the ease I currently enjoy. Like maybe springs had been designed to only encourage sequential shifting. Please advise on this as it's important to me. Thanks in advance!

I must tell you I really admire MGW for such fantastic feedback from the users. I am currently more convinced by what competition is presenting and I am thinking that is not necessary because of the real technological advantage but better presentation of the product. First, I would suggest to add a bit more text at your web site. At first everything seems ok with MGW's/Short throw web page, it is even visually superior to the competition's ones but in a few seconds you realize there is not much information there: https://www.mgwshifters.com/shifters/mustangs/103
Of course, one may sacrifice more time looking for the answers at the forums or trying to find them in the videos but it is time consuming. Nicely shown buttons "Learn More" and "See all features" do... nothing after the click.
Such basic information given by the competition like "Maintains factory Pull up style reverse lockout and backup Camera" or "Re-use factory shift knob" and a few other, just make it so much easier to order the alternative. It just feels safer.
It is not that I am lazy but generally assuming the user analyzed the competition first and sacrificed considerable amount of time for their presentations, every next offer has to present at least the most important information at the first contact with their offer, to be able to compete.

Just my two cents as it may be valuable info for some. :)

I don't do 5-2 shifts but I don't see how the MGW would prevent you from doing that. Just pull it into neutral, all the way to the left, and down.

Not to change the subject but I thought it was strange that Barton says it retains the backup camera. Why would a shifter cause the loss of the backup camera? Struck me as an attempt to make potential customers think the competition killed the backup camera.
