I decided to look into this a bit out of boredom, and was slightly surprised by the results. I don’t know how accurate my method was so please forgive me. If others have more information I’d love it to be shared. Though here is what I found.

I first looked at my own door jamb sticker and found my GVWR and my max load. I figured I’d take the GVWR and subtract the max load, and that would give me a solid number.

My car is a bit of a pig in that it’s fully loaded, minus the rear seat delete which in this case was to my benefit for the sake of this experiment.

My car is a 2022 Mach 1 700a Premium, Handling Package, Elite Package, Leather Recaro, Navigation, 4 seat. It came out using my method to 3,992 lbs.

I then found a 2020 GT350 on Bring a Trailer. I also wanted this specific car to be a pig, and therefore fully loaded. So, I found one that is a 900a, Handling Package, Technology Package, Recaro, 4 seat car. It came out to 3,932 lbs.

Seeing “only” a 60lb difference surprised me.

So I dove a bit further.

I turned to Car and Driver, and pulled up their tests on the Lightning Lap for the 2021 Mach 1 HP.

As tested, the 2021 Mach 1 was equipped as a 600a, Handling Package, Cloth Recaro, Rear Seat Delete, 2 seat car. This is the skinniest the Mach can realistically be. C&D said its weight as tested was 3,811 lbs.

Now we’re talking! That’s a whole 181 lbs lighter than my fully loaded M1 HP, and 121 lbs lighter than the fully loaded 2020 GT350.

To make this fight fair, I called upon C&D once more, and found their 2016 GT350R Lightning Lap test. As tested, the car was a 920a, Electronics Package, 2 seat car and came in at 3,718 lbs.

Wow! A 93 lb difference between the barebones Mach 1 HP, and factory barebones GT350R. A bit more significant difference, albeit, less than I thought. The 350R has several advantages here with its factory resonator delete, and carbon fiber wheels for example, that the M1 HP just cannot match in its slimmest form.

Yes, I’m aware the 350R can get even lighter in its “base” form. With all of its creature comfort deletions when lacking the electronics package. Though, I felt one with the electronics package was more of a fair fight. As the Mach 1 does not have that option from the factory, and my goal was to compare the “closest” factory configurations of each vehicle.

Would love to hear your guy’s feedback! And play nice. 😉

I worked at a place with a scale when I was a kid. I weighed everything just for the fun of it and was amazed how every car I weighed was lighter than I would have thought, it was hard to find something that was more than 4k lbs (my LX weighed like 3050 or something, CJ5 3k, XJ 3k, Camry 3k, everything was 3k lol). These days I'll bet everything is heavier than I would have guessed...
That said, I've never weighed my current car, I'm going to go do that at lunch!

Not an “R” but Vorshlag has the most documented weights I’ve seen. Note the nuances on trunk contents and fuel levels.

So the M1 has the trunk junk, where as the 350 does not here. Though the 350 has slightly more fuel. The M1 is almost certainly lighter than the Dark Horse in that case, and again closer to the 350 than originally thought.

It is beneficial it is not an R, as I feel 4 seat to 4 seat should be compared. If comparing to an R the M1 must have RSD.

That’s also not a HP M1 so it is probably slightly heavier.

Very interesting!

Start by weighing the car on an actual scale. $10 at a truck stop
I would love to do this, but then I would have to also find a fully loaded 2020 350 owner to accompany me! I like comparing the weights when the cars are optioned the “same” way.

Yes, I wish it were apples to apples but I like that they weigh on actual scales and list things like fuel tank level and trunk accessories. The non-HP wheels as I recall are slightly heavier than HP. Only other weight difference I could surmise is the splitter and spoiler/wing on an HP. It's surprising how close all three cars are in reality. The non-HP Mach 1 is FJG so that tells us it is a loaded 700A car with what appear to be the heated and cooled seats.

I wonder how accurate truck stop scales are for vehicles under 4k lbs as compared to race scales.

That’s a really good call, wow that’s pretty crazy then. The M1 being loaded and the heaviest trim, (as I’m with you and under the impression the Handling Package is lighter). On the contrary, that being a 2015 GT350 having the track pack is about as barebones as the non R car can get.

It truly is surprising how close all three of the cars are in reality.

Maybe not as accurate as we’d like, but I’m sure it could get a close idea.

I think after everything we’ve seen here, it’s not a crazy take to say a loaded 2021-2023 M1 HP and loaded 2019-2020 GT350 are about the same weight.

I may weigh my Mach 1 there, we have a truck stop sorta next to me. I have to wait until they get done remodelling though.

I will add also, M1 HP wheels are roughly 31.7 lbs a piece front and rear, weighed by @MLO 351. With the GT350 4 seat model front and rear wheels both being the same weight roughly 31.0 lbs weighed by @Need4SpeedMotors.

Spent ~55 years in the trucking industry and when dealing with CAT scales for many decades I found that they were very reliable and of course they had to be based on making sure that the gross vehicle weight along with steering, drive and trailer axle weights were not overweight.

Ended up weighing at a CAT scale in Chander, Arizona my 2018 GT350R Base model and my 2020 GT350R HEP sans the Tech Package which consisted of 12 speakers and a trunk mounted subwoofer along with a full tank of fuel.

Curb weights came in at 3,620# and 3,710# respectively.

As a side note and looking back some ~40 years ago I also weighed my 1965 Mustang 2+2 K code street/race car and if I recall correctly and with a full tank of fuel it came in at ~2,750 which of course was heavily modified with the interior gutted along with fiberglass hood and trunk lid and a great deal of performance add ons.

Certainly puts in perspective just how much extra weight that Mustang has put on over the years!

@PP0001 Harry, thank you for this informed post. I was hoping to get the weight of a 2019–2020 GT350R without the Technology Package. So 3,710 lbs it is—almost exactly 100 lbs lighter than the lightest Mach 1 tested by Car and Driver, which came in at 3,811 lbs.

I feel the way to spec both vehicles on each “extreme” (grand touring vs. full track focus) is as follows. I am omitting standard equipment such as four seats, black calipers, or RECAROs from my post here, as those can be assumed. I will attach both order guides I used to make this comparison, respectively.

Configuration 1 = Grand Touring

Configuration 1 – 2021–2023 Mach 1: 5.0L Coyote CPC, Tremec, 700A, Handling Package, Security Package, Elite Package, Leather RECARO Seats, Navigation — 3,992 lbs (door sticker)
~
Configuration 1 – 2019–2020 GT350: 5.2L Voodoo FPC, Tremec, 900A, Technology Package, Handling Package — 3,932 lbs (door sticker)

Configuration 2 = Full Track Focus

Configuration 2 – 2021–2023 Mach 1: 5.0L Coyote CPC, Tremec, 600A, Handling Package, Cloth RECARO Seats, Rear-Seat Delete, Red Painted Brake Calipers — 3,811 lbs (Car and Driver)
~
Configuration 2 – 2019–2020 GT350R: 5.2L Voodoo FPC, Tremec, 920A — 3,710 lbs (@PP0001)

In my opinion, this is the closest you can spec each vehicle to one another while preserving their intended philosophies. Obviously, either car can be configured somewhere between these two extremes, but I think comparing the “grand touring” and “track-focused” ends of each lineup provides the clearest comparison. Based on these comparisons, the GT350/GT350R appears to be roughly 60–100 lbs lighter than the equivalent Mach 1, depending on the configuration and comparison method used.

Another conversation to be had to expand on above is the 350/R makes roughly 453 HP at the wheels where as the Mach 1 HP makes roughly 412 HP at the wheels. So you’re looking at about a 41 HP difference as well as a 60-100 lb difference between the vehicles.

I suppose we could infer in a way what the equivalent Mach may be around… If the door sticker weight of the loaded 2020 350 is 3,932 lbs, but your real world weight is 3,860 lbs, a 72 lb difference. We could assume the Mach 1 fully loaded that came out to 3,992 lbs on the window sticker is around 3,920 lbs in reality.
