Digital oil temp gauge - Forscan

Hey folks,

I’ve got a uk spect 2018 GT (which I believe came with pp1 by default). I’m trying to find am oil temp display as I don’t have the option in the gauges.

I’ve located 2 settings in FORscan:

Digital Engine Oil Gauge
Digital Engine Temp gauge

both are disabled, if I enable these, will I get an engine oil gauge? Reason I ask is that I’ve also read that there may not be a sensor for that in the car and that it might use different factors to guesstimate the temp / oil level?

I do have the cylinder head temp gauge, is that a sufficient replacement to gauge oil temp with?

I think you need the digital dash to show those gauges. Check the owners manual pages 102-105 for the different gauges that can be displayed.

I’ve got the digital dash. It has a few gauges, but not the oil ones.

You should be able to go into Gauges and change them, you can only show 3 at a time though.

I don’t have anything related to oil in any of the gauges. From memory there’s Vacuum, Cukinder head temp, battery voltage, transmission temp and possibly one more that I can’t remember.

You’re correct there’s no oil temp gauge on the digital dash, my M1 is the same way. No clue why, my GT had it with the analog gauges. I can’t offer any advice on forscan, but would be cool if you’re able to figure it out.

The GT350 center gauge module is a direct plug-in and the oil temperature gauge is more useful to me than the original vacuum gauge.

Euro vehicles do not have the option to display the oil temperature. Only some US ones have it.
That being said, don't be too upset about it, because even those that do have the option are actually cheating. There's no oil temperature sensor. The displayed temperature is inferred.

@The Latman You can turn your axle oil temp gauge on with Forscan, that one works on a Euro / UK variant, but its hidden by Ford upon first supply

That's one clue. Another one is the oil pressure at idle, which drops to 1 bar when the oil is fully warmed up. These two together, plus your own assessment based on the time you've been driving, will give you a pretty good idea.

Thanks, unfortunately I dont have any oil indicators other than the idiot light that comes on at startup. I’ve been using the cylinder head temp plus the coolant fluids as a rough guesstimate. When the temp gets to the normal driving level, i give it another 15 minutes then step on it. It is rare I exceed 3000 revs though.

I enabled the 2 options in Forscan, but nothing changed, no additional options within the digital gauges appeared.

I could never get oil pressure to work on a RHD / UK.

If I remember correctly, I think I came to the conclusion that the sensor is missing due to the RHD specific filter housing ?

Hmmm... Yes, now that you mention it, I seem to remember that RHD cars didn't have the oil pressure gauge. It's active by default in LHD ones.
The axle oil temperature is the only extra option that I could add with ForScan. And it's next to useless, because I never see it move unless I do 100 mph for some time.

Make it do some work in the bends and coming out of roundabouts etc - it will get warm quite quickly ...

Oh, I do that every time I can.
But you need to do it many times in a row to see that gauge move. And there are only so many roundabouts around here.
