Are people just not buying Mustang GTs (or cars for that matter)?

My 2016 GT (see sig) has been posted to FB marketplace for over a month. Car is in great condition, clean title in my name, no wrecks, etc.

I have had maybe 6 people inquire about it and zero people actually show up to see it in person. Price started at a measly $26K (to account for some negotiating room) and now sits at $24k. Comparing my car to other gen 2 GT premiums on various sales sites and I believe this is a steal of a deal. Still......very little interest. What the F? Of course, I have had the dipshits send a lowball $18k offer, but I am not counting those as being genuinely interested. I don't need to sell this car, but I would like to make room in my driveway for something else and my Mach 1 is simply a better Mustang.

Anyone else having an issue selling a nicely modified, clean GT?
Nicely modified for you… They have no way of knowing that and are taking a lot of risk that you did it all right. They also assume there will be issues with induction and that many miles. You have outpriced yourself. Keep dropping the price by $500 until it sells. Then you know what your car is actually worth.

over 500,000 Mustang GT's have been produced since the early 2000teens world wide. Over a 100,000 in the us since 2015. As mentioned, modded cars scare off some folks and then there's the mileage. When I was looking for my C5 a few years back, I wanted to find a stock unmodded car to mod to my likings for my intended use. I found a 56K mile unmodded coupe at a Nissan dealer with fresh maint, new tires and a 90 day warranty. When I wanted my Bullitt earlier this year, I found my 2020 at a smaller Ford dealer with only 25K miles and it was bone stock, new tires and came with a warranty from Ford for 4 months.

The problems with sports cars like C5's and Mustang GTs, they made a crap load, so there are so many to choose from that are low mile, no mods and you can find them at dealers with a warranty. Where would you buy from?

The 2015/16 Mustang production numbers were crazy compared to now

2015122,349
2016105,932

They only made about 30-35k C5's a year though.

Not really sure why so many people are freaking out with the car having 83k miles. Keep in mind, it is almost 11 years old. That's less than 8k miles/year. Most that I've seen are north of 130k.
Hello; I have a 2001 Nissan Sentra SE with 147, 000 miles. That is 5,880 miles per year. I have a 2004 Chevy Silverado with 74,000 miles. That is 3,363 miles per year. Both bought new and maintained by me. Non -modified. Ask me what dealers offer on the Sentra when they try the trade in angle as I shop.
Some friends I have known for decades would not hesitate to take either of the vehicles because they know how I maintain them. Yet I would be compelled to remind them most of the parts are over 20 years old. time is still time. Miles are still miles.
I have refused to take $800 to a $1,000 for my Sentra. it still is a good car and I like it. I will keep driving it, I guess.

I appreciate your dilemma. You have a nice car with mods suited to your taste. You know the soundness of the car. You have the big eye for a Mach 1. Your evaluation of your current cars value does not match the buying public.

Back from 1987 to around 1991 I restored a 1963 Oldsmobile Cutlass. I bought it for $4000 and spent a lot for parts & paint & all. Hugh hours of labor, I painted it myself. Lost my place to keep it. Wound up selling it for $4,000. Among my greater regrets.

Beat a dead horse in agreeing with those re: modding. I recently sold my modified Miata. No interest, so I removed the supercharger and add-on timing ECU, rewired, sourced stock intake, belts etc. Cost about $250 (and a lot of work) but sold car in a week at asking price. Then went out and found a STOCK GT convertible with 6-spd.; surprisingly hard to find stock in good shape and low mileage and paid a premium once I found it..

Maybe a leak down test and an oil analysis might put some buyers at ease about the shape of engine. And a full inspection report from a good independent shop that specializes in mustangs of this generation in your area?
Hello; I am torn between looking again at older Mustangs and new. too much tech on the new models. In addition to your suggestions, I will ask that the seller of the next older Mustang I look at allow for a long test drive. Say I pay for a tank of gas and with the owner along go for a long drive. long enough to get a feel for the condition on the road as well as the regular sort of inspection.

Were I younger I would look for trashed example of the year & model i want. Buy it cheap and redo it myself. My restore it days are in the past being the main reason I have been shopping new.

My 2 cents, I think your price for the car is a great deal!

However, I have avoided blower cars my whole life because I don't want a blower car, I want an NA car. I think most people fantasize about a blower, but most people don't bolt a blower on their car, ever, and that shrinks the market a bit.

Secondly, I think a lot of banks won't finance a car more than 10yrs old, so you're talking about someone having $26k cash to buy a car, that shrinks the number of buyers too.

Two people that buy highly modified cars:

1. New buyer/young kid who has $xx,xxx and wants to get the most power for his money (who I sold my old Vortech GT to)
2. Someone looking for that exact car (that's who I sold my Cobra to)

I had the same issue when selling my ESS 2017. Mine was only 30k miles and mint, but only tire kickers and low ballers. Put it back to stock, sold the mods, and it sold stock pretty quick.

For the price you listed and the mods you have done I'd guess you need to find the right buyer. Lots of used car shoppers not gonna want that list of possible headaches and unknowns.

Longtube headers definitely make the car only for a certain type imo.

What's Carmax offer you for it?
CarMax is gonna hate those headers.

Carmax won’t take cars without cats. If I was the OP I’d get it back to stock and sell it to Carmax or Carvana. The old man “I know what I got”….won’t work here. Then sell the modded parts by themselves on here or FB marketplace.

I mean. Why should I buy a new car? I bought a 2015 that I need to fix up. But my 2019 GT is flawless as it can be for 7 years of age. I really wonder if its because cars are lasting so long now compared to the past?
