You know, I find it really weird the people in here, and the other GTD threads blowing GM constantly. Now all of a sudden that the GTD not only beat the ZR1x’s time, it blew it away, Ford isn’t allowed to make changes to their own vehicle? Who are you guys to make that decision, and complain about tires and horsepower? That’s the same as saying GM isn’t allowed to give the vette 1000+hp because the GTD didn’t have 1000+hp. Like, I genuinely don’t get that argument. Plus, it’s not like it beat the ZR1x’s time by a second, it absolutely dismantled it by nearly 10 seconds. Have none of you in your life that are complaining, attempted something, not been happy with the results, prepared a bit more, and then gone back and performed better? Just odd, and almost like it’s hurting some peoples egos that the fat pig GTD was able to blow away their precious mid engine baby. If it’s really that big of a deal and you feel the need to fight tooth and nail for the vette, then maybe you own the wrong car and should go get one of those. Because you must be pissed off walking into the garage and seeing a Mustang lol. I’m sure GM will make changes and come back trying to run a better time too, will I complain that they did so as a Mustang and GTD fan? Absolutely not, it’s to be expected.

You can see a faint checkered flag on the tire, the mark of Michelin. Might be Cup2R’s. It very much appears they did their best to remove any hint of tire manufacturer, size, etc

Looks like a TSSOA tire to me.......

I'm just saying, the cars aren't stock. So comparing the times to stock Corvette times are pointless. If they do it with a production car (assuming they release a new model), then we can talk.

Nurburging times are stupid, anyway. They're for the Grand Turismo and keyboard racer crowd. It's funny how the ZR1 is 1.5 or 2 seconds faster at the ~ 7 minute lap of the Nurburging but it's 3 seconds faster around tracks when independently tested here that are only 1:30 laps (Sonoma, VIR)

And I would like to hear what all happened. Some people are saying it's a 1000hp Whipple car. Who knows.
let’s be real here. Basically every gtd and dark horse sc hater is a keyboard racer lol

Slicks or no hmmm.webp

From the track's website...

In addition to timekeeping based on calibrated measuring technology, official record attempts as well as attempts to clock a lap are always supervised by a notary.

The car really needed more power. The fact that it was in the conversation with 250 less horsepower and being 500lbs heavier shows you how next level that suspension is. I wouldn't be surprised either if the stock ZR1 HP numbers are underrated.

Hmmm the grove I see are angled slightly across the tyre and not any main groves around the tyre like Cup2r’s ? Maybe a custom tyre or Hoosier track slick
I can see the curb protectors like a Cup2R has in the pics and video. I don't know of any slick that has curb protectors. I just can't see the grooves real well.

We're going to find out for sure here real soon.

There is no way those tires are Sport Cup Rs on the black car. They don't even look close to the same. Watch some of the old GTD videos at the ring and you can see they are using different tires on that car.

I bet a version of these cars becomes available some day.

Also with respect to "stock" or not, if you look at fastest lap times at the ring, there are a couple Porsche's with Manthey performance kits...... Is that a "stock" vehicle (understood Porsche is a majority owner of Manthey, buuuttt)???

I admittedly can't definitively see treads, but they are usually impossible to see without a 60 FPS camera anyways.

The curb protector is what gives it away to me. Both cars have them, and I don't know of a slick that has a curb protector.

IMO, no. But this isn't a Multimatic Ford GTD. It's just a Ford GTD (EVO?).

Personally idc who Ford subcontracts out for various parts of the GTD program. Whether they pay engineers within the company or external to it is immaterial to me. Just like I couldnt care less whether they do the marketing or hire another company to do it.

Nor do I care what equipment this EVO version has unless it is not road legal. Because in my mind all the upgrades will be made into a new GTD and thus keep production car status.

so far the rumored time is highly impressive to me

Just look at the sidewalls, I posted pictures of both. The slick also has the rim protector. Hell you can see the tread on the production tires.

And then go look at videos of the original sub 7 minute run from a year ago (including a screenshot of that in this post). The black car in the new video is clearly not using Cup 2 R tires.
