Added the foam and opened up 4 more hexes in my grill and I'm now around 5 to maybe 10 over ambient. And sitting in traffic it goes up but not as fast. Then a few minutes after I get going again it's back to under 10

How in the world the right corner of the box is not underneath the metal piece there? Mine is all snugged in underneath the metal and its a pain to take it out! Even the Steeda one seems to be the same way.

Thanks! Wonder why Steeda didn't make it seal tightly to the hood all the way round the box.

I don't think the fender gets as hot as the engine. So they sealed the engine side where it's important. I'm also a believer of the fact that it's better that it's not completely sealed to prevent heat soak like the stock unit.

since I installed mine, noticed that IATs run about 4-deg F above ambient once underway and the forced air intake feeds it. Prior to that, the stock air box tended to run about 10F over ambient and would heat soak more.

Then why does the GT350 seal all the way around with its open element?

You just don't want to accept that the Steeda doesn't seal all the way around against the hood. You've said as much in at least two threads now despite the evidence to the contrary.

The statement was made that the Steeda doesn't seal due to issues with heat soak and David agreed. If heat soak were an issue, why would the GT350 be designed to seal and not be open on two sides?

Edit: If heat soak really were the reason, wouldn't pulling only cool air from the front of the car be an obvious solution as opposed to hot air from inside the engine bay?

i never said i don't "accept it" so huh? I said I don't understand how the hood shuts all the way.

the way I imagine it is air gets in between the headlight and the hood that goes straight to the intake as well. if you block it off then yes, what steeda is saying is possible. I don't simply think steeda goofed it up. gt350 is a whole other design. the fender is further out, the hood is different, and the design of the intake box is different. not to mention it's a different engine...

not sure why this is turning into such a big deal. my 4-5 over ambient is fine, so steeda must have some idea of what they're doing.

There's a 4" gap from the hood to the box from the front and around the driver's side. Just look at the work Stang Racer has done.

No one said Steeda goofed up. Some of us are just saying there may be a better mouse trap. Engineering and manufacturing costs likely played into their design choices, especially with fitment tolerances.

As for your 4-5 above ambient, drive you car for a bit letting it get fully to temp, say 30 minutes or so. Then park it and let it idle for 5-10 minutes and then tell me you still have 4-5 above ambient. That's the subject at hand, not cruising temps.

That may not be relevant or of concern to you, but it doesn't make it any less so for others.

well no crap it's going to rise sitting still, there is no air being pushed to it. doesn't matter if it's sealed 100% or not. it's going to rise. i took a 2 hr trip and 2 hr back trip with it almost 80 out to cars and coffee this past saturday and it never got above 205 at 80mph. i also don't let my car idle sitting there for 10mins burning gas either. even if you are in traffic you're still moving at some point allowing air to get in and sucking air in when you put your foot on the gas at all. doesn't matter what you do, it's going to get hot sitting still. heat will find a way to get to it no matter what unless you got something like a sealed factory box.

i just think whole thing as a non issue and that's me, but if yall prefer it completely 100% sealed, then go for it lol or put factory back on or buy an airaid or make some complete closure like someone was doing. I got nothing to fault steeda on. It's better than jlt, steeda got my money over jlt, and that's all that matters :p
