My stock Pirellis are now pretty much bald after >18k miles of use and we are heading into a supposedly very heavy rainy season. These Michelins seem eternally out of reach. What is another highly-rated brand I could get my hands on in the next couple weeks? :shrug:

I am different from many posters in that I don't want to deviate from the stock size of 265/35 R20, so I am having a difficult time finding a solution on these threads; thus, it would be great to hear from those who did the same size switch-over. I don't need all-season and I will prolly participate in several more HPDE sessions over 2016, but nothing hardcore. Also, there is no set budget in mind, but we don't intend on spending a huge fortune, either. Thanks and happy new year. :cheers:

The hankook Ventus RS tires are amazing, the Yokohama advan neova is great, the good year eagle F1 is very grippy and does amazing In rain. My favorite tire ever is the toyo proxes! Best tire I've owned on any sports car.

Just running the stock 18". I don't know much about performance other than my car has the coveted 5.0 on the side (Actually this isn't quite true. I went for 18" tires because I am cheap, and high rated 4.5 star tires on that tire size can be had for cheaper than that listed below )

I would probably just sift through the search hits on tirerack and cherry pick tires that got the best ratings on whatever specs that I was interested in at the time. For example, wet weather, noise, cornering, stopping power etc.

These have 4.5 star rating, but it says 11 left :

I can only speak on what I've tried and can say the Hankook ventus rs tires are great. Took them off the car for a NY winter and have stock wheels on now. I miss them a lot

I understand your problem. Back in August I saw them in stock at Tire Rack and ordered them even though I didn't need tires at that time.

I had them for almost 3 months before I installed them but it was nice not having to wonder if I would get the tire I wanted at the last minute.

275/35ZR20 is the tire you need to pick.

The 275's are only 0.3" taller overall than stock, which mean your car would be 0.15" high off the ground if you compared brand new 265's to brand new 275's.

Additionally, the 275's are rated to fit the 9" wide wheels, give you a little more sidewall bulge with better wheel/rim protection, not to mention a hair more cushion to help prevent tire sidewall bubbles the 265's seem to be known for.

If you have some other concern about going with 275's over 265's, please post your questions before you choose a lesser quality tire.

I have Michelin Pilot sports on my car, have been beating the crap out of them for 12,000 miles, and I have a staggered fitment. I still have 50% tread remaining on the edges up front, and 70% of tread down the middle, with 60% overall in the rear. These tires are awesome, ride smooth, balance wonderfully, don't have the cold tire flat spot syndrome cheaper tires have, and obviously, wear very well.

I saw those, too, but they did not get high grades in wet traction by a few people and the overall score showed same. Granted, the few reviews I read of the bunch were not S550 owners.

Conti DWS06 were suggested to me as well, but not by an S550 driver...

DWS 06 is also a 4.5 star tire

All Season though

Has excellent numbers, and I am not sure why you would pick the previous listed Summer Tire over this A/S. Probably something I am missing
