You will get better mileage. I have a square 275/40 setup and I'm 10k miles in and just rotated the rears to the front (I know I should have done it sooner) and they still look almost new. Tons of tread depth left. I see myself getting the claimed 30k miles out of them. They're expensive, but last much longer than most compatible performance tires IMO so the cost is equal or less in the long run.

I got sick of looking at that offroad looking sidewall on my Comp TAs and traded them out for the Mich PPs. They are also significantly quieter than the TAs or the PZeros for that matter.

Yeah the PSS are quiet and ride nice, handle well, good MPG, great traction.. I mean the only downside is the price but when you add it all up that isn't even really a big deal.

Thanks, Chad. That's what I'm hoping to experience too. With my staggered setup, I know I want get 30k out of the rears, but if I could get 15k to 20k, I'd be a happy camper. :cheers:

Howdy, Gents.

Discount Tires is telling me they can't find the Michelin Pilot Super Sports in 275/35/20, which is the size I've been running on the front. They say it looks like Michelin has discontinued that size.

Anyway, my front wheels are Velgen VMB7s, 9 inches by 20 inches.

I believe 285/35/20 tires will fit just fine on those wheels, but wanted to run this by you guys for your thoughts. And it's looking like Discount Tires may be able to locate the Michelin PSSs in this size.

Velgen - if you guys are monitoring the forum, and you see this post, would you also chime in?

Update: I spoke to Velgen and they're telling me that the 285/35/20s should fit just fine on the 9 x 20 front wheels.

But in looking at the info on Discount Tire's website re the PSS 285/35/20s, it says that they fit on rim widths of 10 inches to 11 inches.

I still think they'll work just fine on the 9 x 20 wheels, but it does cause me a little bit of concern.

Anyone running this set up? i.e. 285/35/20s on 9 x 20 wheels?

Another option, and this what I did, is go to 255/35/20 and 305/30/20. You lose the fat rear tire look, but you go back to stock rolling tire diameter (~27 inches).

I'd say that sounds a bit too wide for that tire, but see if some professionals can chime in. If Velgen says it will fit you probably wont have a problem. They may look a little bulging though.

Personally I usually go by this chart, I know not everyone does, but this is supposed to be the best for the "contact patch" area. Just my 2 cents.

As far as the MPSS, good choice and price seems normal. I have had good experience with them, they do pretty good even with the additional power. Hold good in dry and in wet, even not bad down to the low 40's/high 30's for the short time they saw those temps when I first put them on.

I have about 11k miles on mine and I think they're about half worn in the rear. Pretty good if you ask me. Especially since they spin and chirp all the time.

Thanks, ahl395. This is good info. I'm not opposed to the front tires being a little wider, but I want to make sure they work on the 9 x 20 Velgen wheels.

The discounts and discontinues are probably because Michellin is phasing out the MPSS for its new replacement, the MP4S, which is I think what the new mustangs are going to wear for a summer tire.

Update:

No worries. Discount tires found two 275/35/20 Michelin PSSs to go with the 295/35/20s for the rear.

They should be on by mid next week.
