I'm getting all kinds of conflicting information regarding this topic and I'm hoping some off the experts here can shed some light ... I recently bought the Whipple full kit with bigger injectors. Fans, t body etc... I would love to run a return style fuel system and I believe that is the best but I'm not sure.. I did buy the JMS plug and play booster but some say they have seen fuel pump failures from that one ... Others say the VMP is the better one to run because it runs the pumps at a 17 Volts all the one vs changing voltage ...

What's the best way to go for longevity off the pumps ?

If the booster goes bad how will you know if your WOT? I'm guessing not and lean out?

I want to stay safe and have peace of mind that my pumps won't fail .. Any information is appreciated

No matter which way you go there is always risk. Whether it be a BAP or an entire fuel system. A FPSS is good insurance but there is still risk. I have the JMS. With the ramp in and the ability to select the ramp rate plus the overall voltage is nice in the JMS. JMS is switchable to the max amount a voltage but at the same time it is also able to dial anywhere in between those voltages as well.

Money is the biggest factor. How reliable are you willing to spend to?

My opinion? Running at 18V when in a 50% or more throttle condition is not going to significantly shorten the life of the pump. Running 22V at 10% throttle will. I have mine setup in the 18V 45% range and I feel comfortable. How often are any of us who street drive in more than 50%? If you are a racer then I suggest buying a FORE return style setup on a Hobbs switch with a FPSS just as insurance.

Order one from Whipple. They will send it ready to plug in with software already set up for their s/c.

I thought standard pulley, tune, and bigger injectors you did not need the boost a pump?

Whipple recommended to me when I was running 3.625 with 10 rib upgrade and original injectors, I am now running 72# injectors and just left it installed.

The OP was asking about which BAP. I was just stating that the one that whipple uses is a great option and they program ramp before shipping to you.

I chose the VMP BAP as I have had great luck with them.

I have a custom dual pump return style fuel system, so I opened the VMP BAP up and set it to 16.6V continuous for my set-up.....it works flawlessly.

For those that are on the edge of needing more fuel, you really don't have to run more than 17-18V.....and I suggest, just based on my common sense, knowledge and experience, just using the amount of voltage you need.....not as much as you can get.

Thanks ! Which one do you recommend on their site I see the plug and play version ? Also is it a ramp style or constant 17v? That's where I'm confused I know the JMS Ramps up but the way VMP describes it there is no mention off ramping the voltage

I run the JMS at 22v for 5000 miles, comes on at about 50% pedal.

We runt he JMS plug and play unit and it's worked great for us on several of our cars. Our 2015 GT with the 2.9L makes just under 900rwhp now on MS109 and all our fuel system consists of is ID1000's and the JMS pump booster.

As someone else mentioned above there's rick running any type of product. Whether it be a return style fuel system or fuel pump voltage booster there's so many variables that can cause failure.

With that said we sell a ton of both setups and haven't had any failures so it's just a matter of which one you feel more comfortable with.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Thanks, Jared

On the plug and play for the 2015 / 2016 Mustang, they sent a yellow 30A fuse, but the car has a 30A fuse in it already, its a double wide mini red 30A stock on my Ecoboost, dont know if a GT has a 20A in it ? Anyways, is that enough fuse ? Im using it at 18V with 50 % throttle, the way they sent it to me. Thanks
